There is so many languages. This is a way to diversify your characters a bit. One tip that I've read is you can use google translate to help write:

I found this very handy. I don't know Greek and Hungarian for which I used in one of my stories. It is a nice change of pace for a story to able to change locations. For example: for a character visiting an another country.
But it can also help in introducing new foreign characters. After all, if a character is known to speak multiple or a different language, it is better to have a clear translation. BUT DO NOT STEREOTYPE A CHARACTER WHILE DOING THIS. After all, political correctness does play out in these type of scenarios. The foreign character are representatives of a country and yet also a person. Researching cultures are a great way to help develop foreign characters.

Remember these character may have a different upbringing. Different problems and insights can have explain the characters. And it can bring new conflicts. After all, they are characters with their own goals too. Ally or enemy, they are a good way to broaden the cast of characters in a story. But please do this after you figure out what this character's characteristics and goals first. With this I say good luck.
And have a pleasant time creating a world of characters and stories.
