Chapter Thirty-Nine - Caught in the Act

«Adam»

F.Y.I.  It's like a month ahead and after Christmas

I sighed, finally putting up the last box of Christmas decorations on the highest fucking shelf in the garage which had me on a latter that wobbled too much. Jena had me put all the Christmas decorations up, which took me about a week and now, on New Year's Eve, I was finally done putting the damned stuff away. I wanted to punch Santa in the face.

Tony had offered to help, but I couldn't take it. Jena had been eyeing us, and with good cause. Tony and I had been together almost every minute of the day and Jena had noticed. Yeah, every time she came around we would push away from each other and scream insults but that only worked for so long until it became suspicious. Our insults were bad, well Tony's were, and we hardly pushed each other enough to hurt. And with our background one of us should at least have a black eye after fighting.

It also didn't help that Jace stopped coming over and I stopped going to his house. After many, many phone calls from Mary, I had gone over for Christmas. I wasn't welcome at my house anyway and, despite Tony practically begging and ordering me to stay, I had left to go to Jace's house.

As soon as I had walked through the door, Mary had practically tackled me, wrapping me up in a suffocating hug.

And then there was Jace, standing there with Cam by his side.

I sighed, climbing down the ladder from the top. I didn't want to think about anything.

"Got ya," a voice whispered as big arms wrapped around me. I laughed as Tony pulled me off the ladder, spinning me around. "What do you think you're doing?" he asked jokingly, stopping and swaying us from side to side.

I turned my head so I could see him a bit. "What's it to you?"

"Is that sass?" Tony asked.

"I'm only sassy towards asses," I smiled.

"Oh so I'm an ass?"

"Weren't you always?" I laughed, rubbing his arms which were tightly woven around me.

"Well," Tony said, pulling his arms away. He put his hands on my hips pushing himself up against me. "I can say this ass, owns your ass."

My face heated, "To--"

"Tony!" Jena's voice rang out from outside the garage door. My eyes went wide as it started to open and Tony pushed my forward lightly. I decided to take one for the team, dramatically falling forward and knocking down an open box of Christmas ornaments. They crashed around me, my hand landing directly on one of the damned glass bulb completely shattering under the pressure.

"Adam!" Jena yelled, almost sounding concern. "What did you do to my Christmas ornament!" She ran over, her heel tapping on the floor. She knelled down, looking at the broken glass around me.  "These were my grandmother's you ungrateful fuck!" she sneered, slapping me.

I glared at her, clenching my jaw. "It wasn't even my fault! He's the one who pushed me off the latter!"

"Shut up!" Jena yelled, standing up. "Tony did you do this?"

There was a moment of silence. "No, the fucking fag fell on his own."

I started to get up, careful not to move my hand too much. "Fuck, you and I both know that you--" I was cut off the the crunch of glass.

Jena stepped down on my hand with her heel, crushing the glass into my skin.

"Stop! Stop! Stop! Stop! Stop!" I screamed, grabbing her ankle. "I'm sorry! I fell, it was my fault!"
