Chapter One-

I woke up 15 minutes before my alarm went off, awake and ready for the day.

I had well over an hour before my first class, a regular business course, started, which worked in my favor considering my hair was tangled into something that looked like a birds nest.

As I tamed and straightened my hair, I went over my schedule for the day: first was business, second was my major, chemistry and chemical bio, then I was meeting Jackie for lunch. My last 2 classes were literature and math, both of which I was not overly excited for. I wouldn't be caught dead in those classes if my dad hadn't forced me to take them.

Around 8:00, I got dressed, did my makeup, and took one last look in the mirror before going to get breakfast.

I tried to keep my outfit pretty casual, but classy at the same time. It was still warm, even as September came around, so I decided on a mint green fit and flare sun dress, a denim jacket, and my favorite brown boots.

I spun around and struck some poses, just because.

"Ava Grey," I said to my reflection, "Today is the day you've been waiting for, and nothing is in your way. You're gonna do great." I smiled one last time in the mirror, grabbed my bag, and head out.

I pulled out my phone as I rode down the elevator and called my mom. She answered on the fourth ring.

"Hey college girl!" She exclaimed. It felt good to finally be able to say that I was college. "I was gonna call you earlier but I figured you were getting ready."

"Yeah, but I was up before my alarm and now I'm ahead of my schedule so I decided I would call you." I replied.

"Aww, even in college my daughter still thinks to call me! I'm touched!" I couldn't tell if she was being sarcastic or if she was actually crying.

The elevator doors opened, and I walked out towards the dorm exit.

"Mom, it's only been one day! Not even and hour actually," I laughed through the phone, "Are Kelsey and dad up yet?"

"Dads still sleeping but Kelsey is in the kitchen eating breakfast. I'll put her on."

Within seconds, I heard my sister screaming through the phone.

"HI AVAAA!"

"Haha, hello to you too." I said back.

"Happy first day of college big sis!"

"Thanks Kels. I just wanted to say hi before I went to class. I miss you guys already."

"We miss you too," my little sister said, "especially dad. Now he's trapped in the house with our crazy mom and a 15 year old." She giggled.

"Oh wow, I can only imagine. Tell him I said hi and I love you all so much! I call you guys later!" I said as I walked across the street my new favorite bagel store.

"Okaaaay. Love you too. Talk to you later."

"Bye Kels!" I hung up the phone and ordered my new usual: a multigrain bagel with cinnamon raisin cream cheese.

After I was filled with bagel goodness, I walked back up the street to building 2 where my first class was.

It was only 8:20 when I arrived, leaving me with 10 minutes to decide where I was going to sit.

I picked one in the third row, right smack in the middle; not too close to the front, and not too far from it.

A few minutes before class started, flustered college students began running in.

I took out my blue notebook and a pen as a tall blonde girl slide into the seat next to me.

"Hey, I'm Tori. Did I miss anything?" she said almost out of breath.

"I'm Ava," I smiled, "And no, the professor isn't even here yet."

"Cool. I heard he's really hot."

Not really knowing what to say, I just nodded my head.

Like clockwork, Professor Flemming made his way into the room and over to the desk in the front of the room.

"Hello Freshman," his voice was surprisingly high, but Tori was right, he was pretty good looking, "Welcome to Economics, I'm Professor Flemming."

We spent the whole class going over what the expectations of the class were and before I knew it, I was headed across campus to my chemistry class.

I couldn't get there fast enough. I got there in under 10 minutes and immediately introduced myself to my professor, Dr. How.

"Nice to meet you, Ava. I look forward to a great year with you." She said as I shook her hand.

"Me too!" Beaming, I chose the lab table closest to the front.

Chemistry was always my best class, and I couldn't wait to start a career in it. This year was going to be amazing.

The class followed the same pattern as economics, so I was more than relieved when it was time time to meet Jackie for lunch.

When I got to the library, she was already there waiting and rushed over to give me a hug as soon as she saw me coming.

"Hey!" she said as she wrapped her arms around me, "how's your first day been so far?"

"Pretty good actually," I replied when the embrace was over, "I have a really hot economics teacher so that's a plus!"

"Ooooo," she smirked, "so you'll definitely be paying attention in that class," she added, wiggling her eyebrows at me.

"Haha, I guess so! How's your day been?" I asked.

"Boring. All I have in the morning is Accounting and some algebra class. No hot teachers. But it's okay, Jason will do."

"Oh right, your little Hollister model," I laughed, "So where are we eating?"

Jackie lit up as she spoke, "OH! I heard about this place called Zoe's right on the water. It's only like a 10 minute walk from our dormitory and apparently it's amazing!"

"Lunch and a beach view? I'm in!"

The whole way there, Jackie told me about Jason's recent photo shoot for Hollister. She went into way too much detail about how he had a little mishap with his shorts before the shoot. It involved a stuck zipper in a not-so-comfortable-place and we could barely catch our breath enough to stop laughing as the hostess at Zoe's led us to our table with an obvious glare.

"Okay, that is too funny," I said still laughing as I opened my menu, "Good thing we're girls."

"Thank god for that!" she said picking up hers.

I was starving and there were too many options to choose from. Grazing over the long list, I asked: "Where's our waiter? I need to know what's good here."

"I know," Jackie agreed, "I can't decide."

After a few minutes, I put my menu down and looked around for the hostess.

When she passed, I told her our waiter had still not come to take our order. Obviously annoyed by my "complaint", she gave me a fake smile and shouted "Harry! Table 17 is waiting!"

I thanked her and went back to the menu.

I glanced up to see if our waiter was approaching and my heart nearly stopped when I caught sight of the gorgeous man coming our way.
