Chapter Three-

I woke up to the sound of light knocking on the door.

"Ava?" Jackie's fairy like voice sounded through the door. "Are you up?"

"Yeah, I'll be right there." I groaned, my head still foggy from sleep.

I rolled over to grab my phone and check the time. It was 9:00, leaving me only half an hour to get ready for breakfast.

I put my phone back in it's charging space and got out of bed to let Jackie into my room.

"Hey sleepy head!" She smiled when I opened the door.

"Good morning." I said in the middle of a yawn.

She giggled and walked in. "I wasn't sure if you were gonna wake up from a text so I figured I'd just wake you up myself."

"Yeah," I agreed. "I'm most definitely not a morning person."

I walked over to my small closest to pick out an outfit to wear.

Jackie was wearing black leggings, flip flops, and a grey Rutgers hoodie, so I knew I didn't have to look cute.

I asked her what I should wear anyway.

"Just wear what I'm wearing. It's gonna be cold down by the water, especially in the morning." She shrugged and tucked her short brown hair behind her ear.

I obliged and pulled out a pair of leggings and a red Rutgers pullover.

"How was your night with Jason?" I asked as I change my shirt.

"Fantastic!" Jackie squealed and clapped her hands together. She was sitting in my desk chair.

"He brought me a bouquet of roses and was wearing a suit and took me out to this really fancy restaurant that I don't even know the name of!" She mused.

"Shit, he's so good to you." I said pathetically. "You guys are perfect for each other.." I trailed off.

"Hey," she said as I pulled on my leggings. "Don't think that after what happened with Kevin that you won't find someone. I've only known you for a week and a half, but I know you well enough to say that you deserve to be happy."

I had walked over to the mirror during her speech but immediately walked back over to hug Jackie.

"You are literally the best best friend ever." I sighed, smiling.

"I know." She whispered when we pulled away from the embrace, but still holding onto my shoulders. "Now hurry up and get ready girl! I'm hungry!"

I laughed and walked back to the mirror to do my make up and grab the rest of my stuff.

"Do you have everything we need?" I asked Jackie as we walked out of my dorm room.

"Yep! Towels, bagels, cream cheese, fruit, plates, napkins, and the bag that's holding all of it." She replied and gestured to the giant Vera Bradley bag I hadn't noticed she brought into my room.

"Alright, lets head out then!"

We made it to the beach by 9:45; I insisted that we stop and pet the most adorable golden retriever puppy. I couldn't help it, animals were my weakness. Other than hot waiters, I silently added but scolded myself afterward.

"Where should we sit?" Jackie asked when we finally got onto the sand.

"Anywhere. The view is going to be beautiful no matter where we are." I said gazing at the shoreline.
