Chapter Four-
"Shut. Up!" Jackie exclaimed as her eyes threatened to pop out of her head.
She came up on her knees and snatched the now crumpled paper out of my hands.
"I can't believe you got his number! Tell me EVERYTHING!"
I plopped down next to her on the towels and began telling her the whole story, minus the peeing part.
I watched as her eyes lit up when I got to him kissing my hand and cooing my name.
"And then I sprinted here to tell you." I finished.
"Oh my god! You have to text him! Like right now!" She squealed, searching for my phone.
"No!" I said, snatching it from her. If I let Jackie anywhere near my phone after what just happened, Harry would be here any minute.
She pouted and crossed her arms of her chest. "Why not?"
"Because Jackie, I already told you I didn't want to get involved with anyone this year, let alone right now." I looked down and played with my fingers.
"Ava," She sighed, "I promised I wouldn't push it, so I won't."
"Thank you."
"But," My hands froze. "You have to at least tell him that you have no intentions of creating a relationship with him, whether you're going to hook up with or not." My best friend stated cooly.
I looked up at her and raised an eyebrow. "So you basically want me to friend-zone him after one conversation?"
"If that's how you want to think of it." She half laughed and waved her hand in the air.
I let out a deep breath.
It was silent for the next couple minutes while I was lost in thought.
I honestly had no idea what to do.
I picked at the fringe on the towel when I finally broke the silence. "What do you think I should do?"
"I think you shouldn't take more than you can handle." Jackie replied.
"Well what do you want me to do?"
"I want you to give this guy a chance. Just get to know him and see where it goes. You never know, he may not be looking for a relationship either." She shrugged her shoulders and waited for me to respond.
After a few seconds of pondering, I said: "Okay."
"Okay?" She questioned.
"Okay, I'll give him a chance." I finally complied.
"Really?! That was a lot easier than I thought!"
"Oh be quiet. Just be happy I'm actually agreeing to this."
"I'm happy for you Ava." My best friend smiled at me.
"Thanks Jack." I scooted closer to her and hugged her tightly.
"This is so exciting." She whispered in my ear.
I pulled away and pointed my finger at her. "I make no promises."
"Okay, Okay!" She giggled as she held her hands up in defense.
I laughed with her as I stood up and looked out to the water.
"I could stay here all day." I said, taking in the soon to be fall breeze.
"Maybe when it's warmer we can camp on the beach!" Jackie squealed. "You ready to go?"
