        Chapter V

        Serenity

Tris writes the pairs on the chalkboard this time, and I notcie how she hesitates before writing each name. My eyes wander around, landing on every intiate--each my possible opponet in the ring. Maybe my courage will be tested and I'll fight Kevin. Though, he might pummel me. Nick is good at combat but I'm sure a good few swings could bring him down. I sense a pair of eyes seeping through my skin and I cannot help but turn to see Allison staring at me; not in anger, but in wonder. She gives me a small smile, stretching her rosy lipstick across her lips, though it looks more like a straight line plastered against her pale skin.

I return the smile, and focus my attention back onto the now finished chalkboard.

        Aiden-Tyler

        Isaac-Kevin

        Destiny-Allison

        Alex-Amy

        Nick-Mike

        Kendall-Kat

        Serenity-

I release a long, deep breath with relief. I'm still a little sleep deprived, so if I were to fight, I'd most likely end up in the nurse's station. Not the place a Dauntless would like to end up.

"Lucky, you don't have to fight today," Amy groans, crossing her arms over her chest.

"At least you get to fight Alex, and Kat totally can beat Kendall. She's like the worst out of all of us." Destiny laughs before sneaking a glare at Kendall and Alex.

"Guys, I don't think I can beat Kevin. He's way stronger than me." Isaac says, with a sharp intake of breath. His eyes seem pained and he rubs his arms quite roughly.

"Oh come on bro, you got this," His sister grabs ahold of his shoulders and looks him in the eye. "Just think about all those times when he used to tease you when you were younger."

What seems like a wave of anger instantly overcomes Isaac and his jaw tightens and his fists clench so tight, his knuckles turn plaster white.

"That's my boy." Destiny smirks, before practicing her combat moves in the air.

Moments later we all file into the training room and assemble around the ring. Destiny gives Isaac a pep talk while Amy and I lean our backs against the wall, conversing.

"Hey, you know Visiting Day is in like two days, right?" She inquires, crossing her arms over her chest.

"Yeah, you think they'll come?" I ask, unsure of the answer myself. Sure, my parents looked pretty content with me and my sister's choice, but what if they finally registered our betrayal and want nothing to do with us?

"I know they will. You saw how proud they were at the Choosing Ceromony." She says. "I bet they can't wait to see us."

Amy had a valid point, I mean my parents are down-to-earth Amity members and one of Amity's top traits is forgiveness, so even if they did become angry or hurt at our decision, they might have just saw past it and learned to deal with it. Aiden and Tyler's match begins and Amy and the others migrate closer for a better look. I stand towards the back, amongst all of the initiates.
