More Than This

Chapter 3

《Theo's POV》

After I left Ashtons house around 5:00 PM, I drove back to Addi's house. I felt really bad about making her walk home alone in the rain. If I knew it was going to rain today, I would've brought her home first and then go over to Ashton's house. Hopefully she made it home okay. Oh crap I thought. Addison didn't have a jacket with her today when we left the house. I drove a little faster and thought about how cold she would've been.

When I stepped into the house, I didnt see Addison anywhere. The lights in the kitchen and living room were off so I went upstairs to see if she was there. Hopefully she was. When I walked into Addison's room, I saw her curled up on her bed with a book in her hand, laying barely open. The Fault in Our Stars I read. Of course she'd be reading that book again. It was her all time favorite book, and she didnt let anybody touch it except me. I took the book away from her hands and found a bookmark on her nightstand to put inside the book. I pulled the blankets out from underneath her small body and covered her with them. I gently pulled her head up forward along with the rest of her body so she would be laying on her pillow. She looked really cute when she was asleep, just laying there; so innocent. Well I mean, not cute-cute like I want to kiss her. Do I? No. No I do not. i cant have thoughts like this about my best friend. That would be wrong.. I thought to myself, standing up from Addi's bed.

I walked downstairs and decided to order pizza. I ordered half a Hawaiian pizza for Addi, and the other half, pepperoni for me. I dont know how she can eat a pizza with pineapple on it, its just so... weird? Well to me it is at least.. I went to the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of water, then went back to the living room to watch some t.v.

Halfway through a baseball game, Addi came downstairs half awake and walked to the couch where I was sitting. She plopped down on the couch and rested her head on my chest, and put her hand next to her head just on top of my steadily beating heart. "Hey Addie," I started to say. "Hey Theo.." She said sighing. "Are you okay?" I asked her, trying to see whether she was stable or not. "Mhmm.. Just sleepy.." she mumbled into my chest. "Haha alright. Want me to bring you back upstairs?" I asked, chuckling. "Nope. im okay." She said sitting up and brushed her messy hair back with her fingers. She pulled back her long wavy hair into a messy bun and then looked up at me. "What time did you get back?" She asked me curiously. "About an hour ago or so." I said putting my arm around her waist and pulling her closer to me. "oh. I had to walk in the rain today." She said, so innocent and vulnerable, making her sound like a little kid. "I know... Im sorry about that. i didn't mean for you to have to walk alone in the rain. If I knew it was going to rain, I wouldn't have let you walk." I said looking at her in the eyes. "Its alright. I had that old lacrosse hoodie that you gave me, in my backpack. I just used that." She said smiling sincerely. "Well dont worry. Next time, i won't let you walk. Rain or shine. Well of course unless you want to, then you can. But if you need me to-" "Theo. its okay haha. Its not that big of a deal.." She said, those last couple words fading softer. "Okay." I whispered. "Okay." She replied.

I dont know what drew me towards her, whether it was her dark chocolate brown eyes, or the innocent look in them, but something- I wasn't quite sure what, brought me closer to her. And something brought her closer to me. The closer we got, the faster and harder my heart pounded. Her eyes flicked down to my lips quickly, and then looked right back up to my eyes. By now, she had her eyes closed, and so were mine. I could feel her light breath touching my lips, but before I could actually feel her lips collide with mine, the doorbell rang. Crap the pizza. We both opened our eyes and jumped back from each other. I cleared my throat that was now suddenly dry, and stood up to open the door.

I took out my money from my back pocket and paid the guy holding my pizza. He handed it to me and walked back to his car. "So I bought us a pizza," I said while closing the door, and trying to ease the tension. "Oh cool. What kind?" Addison asked, sitting up on the couch and looking at me. "Half pepperoni, and half Hawaiian." I said while placing the pizza box down on the coffee table in front of the couch. I sat back down next to Addie but not as close as last time. I reached over to the box and opened the lid. The smell of freshly baked pizza filled the room and I sighed with delight as I took a piece from the box. Addi got up and left the room, going towards the kitchen. When she came back, she had two paper plates in her hand and some napkins. she's placed one of the paper plates on the table along with the napkins, and then took the pizza that was in my hand, and put it on the other paper plate. "Here," she said handing me the paper plate with my pizza on it. Addi was OCD clean and absolutely could not stand crumbs or dirt or anything like that. She then took her plate and took a piece of Hawaiian pizza for herself.

"Lets watch a movie." Addison suggested after she finished her first piece of pizza, and I was on my 3rd. "Okay sure, which movie?" I asked her. "Umm can we watch Catching Fire?" Addi asked me with pleading eyes. Another thing I love about Addi, is that she's not into sappy chick flicks like The Notebook or Dear John. "Yeah sure. Ill go get it," I said putting my pizza down going to her shelf full of movies. I skimmed the movie shelf and finally found it. "Got it!" I said. I put the movie into the DVD player and sat back down on the couch. I looked over at Addi and she was biting her lip. "Alright, what is it?" I say turning my body so id be facing her. "What do you mean?" Addi looked at me sounding confused. "Every time you bite your lip, it means you want to say something, or somethings been on your mind." I say. Addi sighs and says its nothing and then looks at her fingers. "Addison. Look at me." I say putting my index and middle finger under her chin and tilting it up so she would look at me. "Its just... That almost kiss that we had..." She mumbled. "Oh..." I started. "Yeah, im sorry about that. I shouldn't have leaned in. It was my fault. Sorry," I said, feeling the tension between us. "Its not your fault, I leaned in too. It was just a misunderstanding." She said smiling a little. "Yeah, of course. Still friends right?" I said, smiling too. "Definitely. I wouldn't have it any other way." She said scooting closer to me. "Same here Addi." There was something about the way she said I wouldn't have it any other way  that kind of hurt. I don't know what it was, but it stung a little.

Halfway through the movie, Addison curled up next to me and was laying down on my lap. I was stroking her hair that was now out of the messy bun, and by the time that Katniss and Finnick were surrounded by the mockingbirds and Katniss was screaming, Addi was sound asleep. I picked her up bridal style and brought her up the stairs to her room. I pulled the covers over her body, and sat at the edge of her bed. I leant down and gently placed a kiss on her forehead. "Goodnight Addi.." I left her room and turned off the lights. I went back downstairs and turned off the T.V. and cleaned up the mess on the table where we ate. I put the pizza in the kitchen and threw away all the plates and napkins. After everything was cleaned up, I went upstairs and changed into my pajamas. Since Addi was asleep, I didnt really care about changing in the room. I took my pants off and then my shirt. I put on pajamas but not a shirt since it was pretty warm. I layed down on the air matress and quickly fell asleep.

Around 2:30 AM, I woke up to somebody whimpering and tossing and turning. I sat up and saw Addie with eyes squeezed shut and tears running down her cheeks. She was having another nightmare. I quickly got up and went to her bed and shook her. "Addi wake up. Addison come on.. Addi open your eyes." I said gently shaking her awake. Addi slowly opened her eyes and realized where she was. "It was only a dream Addi.. You're okay." I said wiping the tears off her face with my thumb. She caught me off guard when she quickly put her arms around my neck, but I put my arms around her waist and hugged her tight when I realized what was happening. "Im glad you're here. Thank you for being here for me." Addison said into my neck between sniffles. "I'll always be here for you Addi... Always." I said while rubbing her back in slow circles. When I let go of her to go back to my bed, she pulled on my arm and said, "wait. can you maybe sleep up here..?" "Of course." I said snuggling up to her underneath the blankets. She pressed her warm body close to mine and I put my chin on top of her head. I could feel her slow steady breathing underneath me and I sighed. "I love you Addi." I whispered. "I love you too Theo.." She replied. But the thing that she doesn't understand, is that I dont love her like a sister or a friend. I love her. And it took me this long to realize it.  I love Addison Jane Carter.
