Roxie could feel the tears pricking at the corners of her eyes and swiped at them. The people hardly split for her and it occurred to her that it might be because she was human. The thought was enough to shake her to the bone. How many wolves were there in the world? How many packs? How many normal human beings were thrown into a situation like with Hunter and her? Roxie yelped as she hit a wall and fell back onto the ground.

“Sorry,” A man’s voice said reaching out a hand to help Roxie up, pulling her up before she could even reach up to take his hand. “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine, thank you,” Roxie smiled politely and tried to pull her hand back. The man’s hand stayed latched to hers and he jerked her closer.

Roxie felt her fear start to rise as he leaned in, “Hmmm,” He sniffed the air close to her and smirked. “A beta’s unmarked mate all alone? Not a very smart idea in neutral territory.”

Roxie jerked her hand back more forcefully and he let go. “I’d watch out bud, my mate and the Alpha are not far from here. You really don’t want to piss them off.”

The guy’s smirk was starting to irk her as he moved in again a low growl reaching her ears. The guy was taller than her; a good half foot and well muscled like Hunter and Ethan. He was definitely a wolf, maybe even a high rank? Roxie couldn’t tell since she’d only met a few lower ranks. But this guy didn’t give off a sense of power like her mate did. Her mate? Since when was he her mate? Roxie stored those thoughts to contemplate another time when she wasn’t being advanced on by a wolf.

“Oh? What pack does your mate and Alpha belong to?” His smirk widened and he laughed when Roxie paused. “You do know the pack’s name don’t you?”

            “Um… t-the Armoon Pack?”

The man stopped for a moment raising a brow in question. “Jonah and Noah Armoon of the Orchid Moon pack? Sorry honey but you don’t look near old enough to be Noah’s wife.” He made a grab for her arm and she scrambled back running around him.

Surfing through the crowds Roxie twisted and turned trying to stay out of sight of the man. The crowds began to thin as she reached the parking lot. When her feet his asphalt she started moving back immediately. This was not where she wanted to be, in a dark area without any people. Her back collided with what felt like another wall, but Roxie was getting to know better than that.

Breaking into a sprint she darted through the aisles between cars listening to the dark laughter following her wherever she turned. “Leave me alone!”

“No chance sweet heart.” He growled appearing right in front of her. Roxie screamed and turned on heel to run in the other direction.

He disappeared leaving Roxie turning in circles in between a truck and SUV. The cars were so close her back touched the truck while her arms pressed into the glass of the SUV, breath fogging the window, eyes locked on the eyes of her reflection. The feeling of being trapped was quickly returning along with the fear of being chased, and, or captured. Panic began to set in. Her eyes became unfocused until the reflection in the window began to turn into a flashback.

“Roxie,” Ella whispered in the darkness. A sliver of moonlight was shining through the small window at the top of the wall making the only light that single thick beam making a perfect rectangle on the white floor. A slight ghostly glow made Ella’s face just visible across the small room lying in her metal frame bed under the thin white cotton excuse of a cover. Ella’s body was shaking in the cold and her lips trembled as she spoke. “Roxie, do you know how much longer?”
