We find no one else for the rest of the day. We stay in camp, and two of us venture off into the forest occasionally to hunt or gather water.
Ellie and Marvel leave camp first, they come back with some firewood. I am unsure as to whether a fire is a good idea. We are in a large group, but if we are sleeping it'd be easy for someone to pick us off. Maybe Peeta had been near our camp last night, perhaps that's why he was so close to us when we found him.
Cato and Glimmer leave camp around midday to collect water, and I see Glimmer is walking slightly too close to Cato for my liking. I give her an evil glare and turn back around and play with my knives. I notice Marvel looking at me and I hold his gaze.
"What are we going to do over the next few days?" Peeta asks, breaking the silence.
"I guess it's up to Cato. He seems to be taking charge." Ellie pipes up.
"Not necessarily. He'll take our opinions into consideration." I say, looking up at Peeta. His blond hair is ruffled and streaked with blood. His face is blotchy and his left eye is a little purple where Cato had punched him last night. The bandage I had put on his arm is bloodstained.
"Hey, let me change that bandage." I say, putting the knife back in to my vest. I grab the pack with medication inside and shuffle towards Peeta. He moves away slightly, but holds out his arm for me to fix up.
Inside the pack there are some bandages and a few pots of medicine. I open the pots and sniff them. Two smell herbal, and one smells like disinfectant.
"This'll sting." I say, and dab the disinfectant smelling concuction over the gash in his arm. I hear Peeta suck in breath quickly, but I continue.
Marvel and Ellie are having quiet conversation to my right. I think they're talking about Cato and Glimmer. Ellie says something about Alexius, but I can't quite make it out.
"What does that one do?" Peeta says, and points to a pot that smells like herbs.
"I'm not sure. Want to find out?"
"I don't know. Why not?"
I take the pot and smear a little of the paste on to his arm.
"It feels better already!" He says, smiling. I dab a little more on to his wound, then get a new bandage.
I am wrapping the material around his arm when Cato and Glimmer get back from the lake, laden with water bottles.
"Healing Lover Boy, are we?" says Glimmer.
"Well he's helping us now, isn't he." Marvel replies with venom in his voice.
"Don't argue!" Ellie protests.
Glimmer shoots her an irritated look but shuts up. Cato flops down next to me and Peeta and examines my work.
"Maybe you should have been training to be a healer instead of for the games." Cato jokes, nudging my leg with his hand.
"Maybe." I smile. He hands me a bottle of water and I take a few sips, then realise just how thirsty I am and take a few more gulps.
"Hey, save some for the rest of us." Cato laughs, and takes the bottle from me. He drinks the rest then puts the bottle on the floor.
"Cato!" Glimmer calls, and appears by his shoulder.
"Yes, Glimmer?"
"Come and sit with me?" She asks, fluttering her eyelashes.
"Why don't you sit here with me?"
Glimmer gives him a long, exasperated look. "Fine."
She sits down close to Cato and leans against his shoulder. She gives me a smug look and I ignore her.
