Once we get back to our little hollow, I immediately open our pack and empty the contents out. There is a small pot with a cream inside, and two thick vests, as we left the other in the leaves by the cornucopia.
"No food, Cato. Just a cream, which I suppose is medicine for you, and a couple of vest things."
"Vest things?" Cato asks, as he grabs the pot.
"I don't know, they're thick, kind of squidgy. A bit more like pads I suppose."
"Wait, who's left?"
"Me, you, Katniss, Peeta and Felixia. Why?"
"Katniss..." Cato murmurs and trails off. "Here, put this on my arm will you?"
I move towards him and undo the bandage around his arm. The skin around the wound is looking a little yellow, and the wound is obviously infected. Carefully, I smear some of the medication on to his wound, then add a little more. "There."
"Katniss is left. Let me see these vests." He says. I hand him the larger vest and he examines it. "Give me a knife" He commands. I do as he says and hand him a knife. I watch suspiciously as he tries to stab the blade into the vest. "Ha!" He exclaims, excitedly. "We have armour! These are like bullet proof vests!"
I stare at the vest in my hands in awe. "We stand a chance now, all we need is food!"
"Which we still need to find."
"We have the whole day to do so, don't worry."
We decide to spend a while regaining our strength, and when the sun is at its highest point we decide to venture out. I check Cato's wound which is already healing up. I smear some more of the cream onto his wound, and we collect our weapons. The vests are quite bulky, and my knife vest doesn't quite meet at the front. This annoys me, but I'd rather be arrow proof than dead.
"So what are we looking for first?" I ask as we start our prowl through the trees.
"Anything worth killing or eating... Or both." Cato says with a smirk.
"Tribute okay with your chives?" I laugh, and he lets out a chuckle.
"I don't want to eat any Katniss thank you very much."
I glance around the trees, when a flash of lighter brown catches my eye. I freeze, and pull a knife from my vest. "Squirrel." I say, as I flick my wrist. The knife hits the squirrel square in the neck. Cato nods appreciatively. We scout around the trees for a while, not finding any more.
"Did you collect Thresh's pack?" I ask.
"Nope, I thought you did." Cato says, looking down at me.
"No, I didn't. Shame, his pack could have been useful."
"I wonder what he needed. And how is Lover Boy not dead yet? He should have gone by now."
"I have no idea. The medicine was in their pack, I just know it." I say.
"You know, we're coming towards the end of our time in the arena aren't we?"
"Yes, and?"
"Why don't we take the Cornucopia?" Cato says.
"That'd be the perfect place for an ambush by the gamemakers. Plus we'd be like sitting ducks with only two of us."
"I guess. It'd just make it easier... If we could get on top of it, we can see the entire treeline."
"I think it's risky. We'll leave it a few more nights, okay?"
"Okay." He agrees. "We should go back."
