" Can you believe this woman had the nerve to show up?" I whispered to my friend Alyssa as I walked up to view my daughter. She wore a tight fighting, black two piece suit, with some stilettos that would make a stripper blush. She even had the nerve to be wearing a veil. I shook my head and took a breath. Navette was hugging her for dear life and I don't know why cause I was the one that raised Shayla.
"Excuse me could yall move so I can see my child one last time?"
Navette gave me the most evil look and I knew it was coming.
"She has a right to see her child", she said letting go of diamond,"You kept her away this long, but she has a right to stand here the whole service if she wants to."
I saw that boy from the hospital walk up and try to grab Navette's hand, but she pushed him away.
"Girl you better move out of my way or.."
"Or what Dee you gonna hit her?" DIamond said chiming in.
I grabbed Alyssa's hand and tried to walk around them, but Diamond wouldn't move.
"Diamond not today. I am not gonna do this with you today."
Alyssa walked in front of me. " Look honey I am truly sorry for your loss, but I think you better move before we be having two homegoings instead of one. "
Diamond was about to say something, but she didn't get the chance.
Out of nowhere Navette ran up on Alyssa and said" Look I don't know who you are or where you even come from, but look around real good cause all these people loved my sister and would think nothing of draggin you up out of here. The best thing for you and him to do would be to walk back out the door cause you are not welcome here."
Alyssa sucked her teeth and looked up at me to speak.
" Navette you are being out of order..."
"Get out!!! Bye! You didn't care about Shay or me!!"
I tried to speak, but she kept cutting me off and people were starting to walk up to us. I was mad as hell. I just wanted to come here and say my goodbyes. I know I was not the best, but damn I did try to take care of my girls. If Navette had just did what the hell I told her too I wouldn't have been beating her ass all the time. Shayla was kind of an embarrassment to me always pulling her hair out and taking too long to learn stuff. I guess that time she fell down the steps I should have taken her to the doctor, but I had to work. somebody had to make the money All these girls did was eat and sleep. I did the hard work and I had to bitch to come home to dinner and a clean house. I decided to leave the funeral cause I had not time to be fighting and besides I didn't want to rip my suit. Me and Alyssa walked out the doors to the church and across the parking lot. I opened the door for Alyssa and looked up when I heard my name called.
"Hold on Detrick don't leave yet." Said the woman walking fastly towards me. As she got closer I could see how fine she was, tall slim, and light brown with long hair in a fitted long black dress. I had no clue how she knew me and I could see Alyssa staring through the car window. It wasn't until she had walked all the way up to my car that I recognized her. Damn.
