Chapter 1
The soft beeping of the heart monitor kept Alex awake, he hold his best friend, Ashton's hand tightly. It hurt him to see him like this, Ashton was hurt because of him. They managed to stabilize him into a coma but that just hurt him even more...he wouldn't react, he wouldn't even clutch his hand in return. All of this was his fault, all the pain Ashton managed to conceal was amusing for Alex. After all, he's been on medication since they met back in college and he knew that he hated it.
The door opened, Alex expected to hear a nurse or even a doctor's voice but instead he got a gentle and cheerful whisper. "I'm back, and I brought us coffee this time!" He knew that voice all too well for it is the voice of another friend he holds dear in his heart, Marie.
"Thanks Marie..." Alex replied, almost monotone. Marie frowned as she placed the styrofoam cups aside on the table. She took a seat next to him and gently clutched his shoulder. She opened her mouth to speak but quickly shut it again, not being able to muster any words to console her friend. Silence fell upon them. "I wonder what he's dreaming about..." ,Alex finally said, "probably picking daisies and riding wyverns." he chuckled. Marie's brow furrowed, "What's a 'wyvern'?" She said, confusion laced throughout the whole sentence. Alex chuckled once more, "Sounds like you haven't played the game Ashton lent you about a month ago."
After some time, Marie left. Alex was left with the lifeless body in the room but, somehow, it felt as if nothing bad had happened. He stared at Ashton's peaceful face, he watched as his chest rose and fell with every breath, he held his cold hands and hoped he could radiate his warmth onto him. After his staring he did the unthinkable, he kissed his forehead and stroked some of his loose hair aside. "I'll see you later bro..." he said to no one in particular, it was just him and the empty room... Empty? All sound ceased and the body in front of him disappeared.
Shock was written in all his expressions, he shook in fear and his eyes were wide. All he heard was a static-like noise and distant screaming. He ran out to the hallway, hoping to find an answer to all this... Instead he found a more twisted version of the hospital.
Blood coated the walls and chains hung from the ceiling's plumbing system. There was some weird goo floating in the air. But the screaming, it wouldn't stop! He could only suspect what they were doing to that person. He ran back into the empty room and everything went back to its silent state. For the first time in a long time, he was afraid. For the first time in a long time, he was terrified...
