Chapter 4
After his run in with the faithful servants he was petrified. He only had the strength to force his voice out once; "who... who is Ashton?". They both looked at each other worriedly. "Maybe we should take you to your bed." They said in unison, it was kinda creepy. Knowing he had nowhere else to go he kindly accepted. The butler grabbed him by the hand while the maid led the way. Now that he was getting a better look at them they looked kind of familiar...no, not really. But he felt like this has happened before.
They led him to a massive room, in the center was a bed that could be made specifically for a king. He stared in awe. After he was sat down the maid gave him a glass of water. "Drink up, milord." she said with a smile. He did as instructed. "I guess proper introductions are in order," the butler started, "I just hope this jogs your memory..." he mumbled. "I'll start! My name is Marie, I've been a maid ever since the rebellion just a few years ago and-" "That's enough, Marie. You can't expect all of his memories to overflow just like that!" Marie lowered her head, "Sorry, sir..." The butler sighed. "It's alright, I guess it's my turn now. My name is Alex, just like Marie said," he motioned to her, she kindly waved, "we've been serving under you ever since the rebellion. We'll get more into detail about that subject later. For now, we'll have to focus on your memories." Ashton was confused, sure his memory was foggy but he tried to piece the few pieces he had together. He stood up, placing his hand against his chin in a questioning matter. "Let me get this straight, if I'm the so called 'Ashton' you both claim and if this is his room..." both Alex and Marie nodded. He snapped his fingers in conclusion "...so does this mean I rule this land?" "Yes and no." Alex said. "You have power over this area but the real ruler is named Abel." He stated. "Yeah, he's kind of like your boss, just as you are ours!" Marie finished. Ashton nodded as he paced around the room. He felt distracted, maybe a chunk of his memory was coming back but he couldn't quite tell.
"Now then, let's do something about your clothes." Alex said "I'll take you to the bathroom." "Ok, I'll prepare your new clothes!" Marie hurried out of the room. Alex took his hand and led him down the maze they call hallways. Ashton felt something, deep down in his heart. Blood rushed to his face giving his cheeks a red tint, he's definitely felt this feeling before. Now tears were welling up in his eyes as a vision of what happened before the crash came back to him. He could tell Alex sensed his sadness as he stopped and turned a round with a worried expression. All he could do now was sob, "A-are you... still mad at me?" Alex gave him a sad smile, "Why would I be? You finally came back home to me." He enveloped him in a tender hug. "C'mon, let's go give you that bath." Ashton doesn't know if any of this is real now. He just...doesn't feel safe. After that moment they finally reached the bathroom.
After Alex helped strip of his bloodied clothes he sat on the tub, he held his head low. He contemplated what happened. Memories rushed to his head, some of these he didn't even recognize as his own but he knew that these were only chunks of the real picture. Alex took pity on him, not only did he looked frail but he was also covered in scars, especially around his back. He helped him wash up, it was the least he could do. Marie walked into the room with her eyes covered and left the fresh clothes on top of the vanity, she let out a faint giggle, even if she couldn't see she knew exactly what was going on. Alex took a towel out of the hook and started drying Ashton's hair, he felt this motherly feeling pulsing through the expression.
Ashton looked at him with those sad eyes of his, "Tell me what happened, everything" Alex was taken aback by the demand, he directed his vision elsewhere. "I'm sure you'd want to hear everything. But-" "No buts! If I understand what happened before I came back then I can help with restoring the former peace!" "So you remember the rebellion..." Ashton gave out a soft gasped as he leaned back in surprise, he didn't know how or why but he remembered something else... something dark and threatening. His breath shortened, and he clutched his chest. A shadow formed in front of him, it had horns and wings but otherwise it was just a silhouette. It grinned at him, it looked like it was ready to kill. Alex stared at him with a serious expression, he was giving Ashton what he wanted in form of a vision. "That shadow you see is what started the rebellion. He is responsible for the beginning of the end. You, as the first seal of the dragonkin, were killed in battle by him thus breaking the seal. He stole your appearance and made you mortal hence why everyone fears you." Ashton was practically gasping for air now, he didn't know what to do but he remembered a few bits and pieces like who he was. He feared himself.
