It is almost closing time for Jam & Roller. Simón is the last one to stay. His job is to check if there are still some skaters on the rink or in the locker room. There was no one in the bar or on the rink anymore. Now, he's checking the locker room. To his surprise, there was still someone sitting on the bench. It's Ámbar.
He notices that there are tears falling from her face. Simón is surprised to see her like that. He's never seen her cry before. Ámbar notices him just now. She wipes her tears off of her face.
"Simón, I didn't think that someone would come in here." She sits up, not trying to show the sadness she is feeling right now. But she fails.
"This is the locker room, you know. Everybody comes in here." He tries to joke.
"Right." Ámbar fails to smile.
"Ámbar, it's almost closing time. Maybe you should start heading home."
"I didn't realize it was already that late." She looks at her watch and stands up. She tries to walk away but he stops her by putting his hand gently on her arm.
"No, wait. What's going on with you?" He says sincerely.
She turns around to look at him. "Nothing's going on, I'm fine." Her voice betrays her and Simón is now sure that something is really wrong.
"I don't believe you. Just tell me what's wrong and maybe I can help."
Ámbar doesn't know what to do, she wants to tell someone but at the same time, she doesn't want to look vulnerable in front of him. She eventually breaks and takes a deep breath. "Okay, fine." She sits down again and Simón sits down next to her. "Something happened with my aunt or better yet, my godmother." Tears are starting to well up in her eyes and she can't stop them from rolling down her cheeks.
Simón frowns, he is confused. "What do you mean? I thought she was your aunt."
"I thought so too. But apparently I was wrong."
"How did that happen?"
"My godmother lied to me, my real name is not Sol Benson, it's Ámbar Smith, just like I thought my entire life."
"Why did she lie to you?"
"I don't know. I don't dare to ask her either. I found out she lied through a conversation I overheard between her and Rey. They were smirking because everyone seemed to believe the lie about me being Sol Benson. They said that no one could know who she really is. I left after that, I didn't hear the rest of the conversation." She is full on crying right now, she tried not to but she couldn't.
"I'm so sorry, Ámbar. That must be awful." He puts his arms around her. "I have no idea how much it must hurt to find out, but just so you know, I'm here for you, for whatever you need."
She doesn't like the way this was going, she got scared of how close they were getting because of this conversation so she is trying to escape his very comforting hug.
She wants to sound mad, she can't because her voice is trembling and her eyes are full of tears. It was all too much for her. "Leave me alone and he hugs her even tighter with that.
She surrenders because for the first time in a very long time, she felt good again. She doesn't want to let go of that feeling. "Why are you doing this, Simón ? We've never been friends before so why are you being nice to me?" She can't believe this is happening.
"You needed someone to be there for you. You needed a friend in this moment. If you want, I can always be your friend. You know, you can always count on me for whatever."
Ámbar finally smiles. "Thank you so much for this, I appreciate what you're doing for me."
"Anytime. Are you ready to go home or do you want to stay a little longer?"
"I don't want to go home, ever. I can't face her, I'm not ready."
"Okay, then maybe you can stay with one of your friends." Simón gives her a supporting smile.
"Fine, I'll call Delfi. Are you going to stay with me until she gets here, I don't want to call the driver because then Sharon will find out where I am. I at least need one night without her."
"I will stay with you until your friend gets here. In the meantime, do you want a drink?"
"Sure, that would be nice." They smile at each other and they walk to the bar.
