SOUL FIRE/ LUNA
I lifted my head to see Sol landing at the entrance to the den.
" Hey, welcome back, Sol." I barked as he came over to me.
" I brought fresh kill back, help yourself." He dropped a young stag in front of me.
" Thanks." I took a chunk off to eat. Sol and I share prey now, we take turns going out to hunt.
" We've been living here for a couple of months now and the Packs haven't come to look for us. Do you thing they gave up, Luna?" Sol asked, looking up from his meal.
" I'm not sure, maybe?" I responded, " Just because they haven't searched this area, doesn't mean they have given up looking for us."
" Right, we should still keep our guard up." Sol said.
I stretched out on the ledge, my tail spread out in a mess of black and silver fur on the rock. Sol settled down beside me.
" You're back from taking a look around the area..?" I asked, " Any signs of the Packs?" Sol shook his head.
" A couple of rouges and a loner or two but no Pack wolves." he growled, settling down beside me. I nodded and rested my head on my paws.
" That's a good sign." I muttered, basking in the sun's warm rays. I felt Sol place his paw over me and lick my ear. I shifted closer, resting my head on his paw. " Rain Season's coming soon, it will be less cold by then and there will be more prey to eat..."
( Wolf in front is Luna, silver ears/underbelly/right high paw/tail tip, wings are silver w/ black bands, bi-colored eyes; wolf behind is Sol, golden-yellow fur, white spots around eyes, white markings on fur, golden dragon wings, orange eyes)
" That would be a good time for our pups..." he said with a smile, " Our pups could be raised here."
"No.. Its not safe for them here..." I said drowsily," The Packs could still be looking for us..." I flicked my tail gently. " The predators here are powerful enough to take on a full grown wolf as well." I lifted my head to gaze at the cloudless sky above. This was a rare sight in the Snow Season.
" You worry too much, Luna. Even if they do find us here, they can't reach us. If they do, them I'll protect you and our pups with my life..." Sol growled. " I'm not about to let some wolf take my mate away from me." I smiled gently.
" You've always been protective of me Sol..."
" How can I not be protective of you..." Sol said and licked my ear again. " I protect you because I love you..."
" So, Isn't it a bit early for that?..." I whispered, laying back on his paw. I felt his tail curl over my flank as I drifted off to sleep.
I woke from my slumber to the sound of small paw steps approaching. I opened my eyes to see a small pup entering the den. Its eyes wide with fear as it saw me look at it. It turned to run back out.
" Hold on..." I said softly, rising to my paws. " Are you lost?" I limped over to the pup. She shrank back, whining.
" Please don't hurt me..." she whimpered.
" I'm not going to hurt you, what's your name, little pup?" I asked. I heard Sol muttering in his sleep and rolling over.
" I'm Daphne...." the pup whispered, " I'm not lost, I'm just... not going home..." She stared at me with her golden eyes.
" Its better to have a home, Daphne; its not fun having to hide from the Packs." I barked and gently nosed Daphne towards the entrance, " Go back to your Pack, they must be worried about you."
" I ca-can't..." the pup whimpered. " They don't want me... They don't like me... they drove me out..." She curled into a shaking ball of fur.
" Well... If that's the case, then you can stay here." I said and curled my tail around Daphne. She looked up at me.
" Really..? You're not going to send me away?" She buried herself into my tail fur. " Thank you..." I smiled at the pup then turned my attention to looking at the forest below the cave.
" Why would the Packs send away another pup..?" I wondered as I stared at the tree tops of the forest. " What's gotten into them?" I glanced down at Daphne, " Especially a pup that has this much enthusiasm and potential. She would have made an excellent Pack warrior, hunter, or even beta, if trained well.." I tucked my tail over mu muzzle, careful not to disturb Daphne and closed my eyes. " Are the Packs becoming a group of savage animals?" These words echoed in my mind as I slept.
I felt soft feathers and moss under my pelt as I woke up again. I opened my eyes to find myself on the makeshift bed. Daphne slept beside me, curled in a tight ball of fur. I yawned and stretched myself, curling my tail over my paws as I sat up. Sol trotted into the cave; a couple of rabbits dangles from his jaws and a hawk was slung over his back.
" Sorry, I know its supposed to be my turn to go hunting." I said when Sol reached the bedding.
" No worries, besides, you have to watch the pup." He said through a mouthful of fur. " Where did the pup come from? Is it a runaway from the Packs or a rogue?"
" She's a Pack wolf, driven out of her Pack." I said softly watching Daphne as she shifted in her sleep. She opened an eyes and gave a massive yawn. She blinked at Sol.
" Hi..." She barked shyly. " I'm Daphne..." she curled her tail around her paws, trying her best to copy me.
" Welcome to the family, Daphne." Sol said, settling down on the bedding next to her. He curled his tail around me and dropped the prey. " Let's eat, I'm sure the both of you are hungry."
