I swung my tail forward, sending a spike forward.

" Hey! Watch the spikes!!" Jack yelped trying to get way from the spikes. " Isn't this supposed help me gain confidence in my tail?!"
" It is." I responded, " This is the experience approach. Now, use your tail to deflect. Don't worry about how you do it, just do it how ever you'd like."

" I'll try..." Jack said and instinctively swung his tail as a spike aimed towards his arm. The spike ricochet off his tail and stuck itself into the sand. He rolled aside as a midnight spike shot past him, coming up on all fours. He whipped his tail over his head like a scorpion.

" Interesting, he's on all fours. It's better balance for the scorpion style attack and it provides a more powerful offense and a decent defense. Moreover, this style lacks speed and range... I have both of those abilities. Plus, my style is more defensive than offensive, I can use his weakness to my advantage." I thought and bounded to the right. Jack looked at me, narrowing his eyes, and and whipped his tail forward. I leaped aside as a dark brown spike shot towards me. I darted forward only to be kept at bay by Jack's manticore tail. The tail slammed against the ground, creating a cloud of dust, then whipped to the side, trying to trip me. I leaped to a tail length away.

" This is easier than I thought..." I heard Jack say. " Maybe I can do this..." He bounded forward and lashed at me with his tail. I dodged the blow and released yet another spike.

" Don't forget about your horns, Jack!" I instructed. " You don't just have to use your tail!" Jack stopped for a heartbeat, deciding what to do, then lowered his head like a bull and charged. I dodged to the side, last minute, letting him thunder past me. I swung my tail in a sweeping arch towards him, he leaped back and landed on all fours. " He's getting used to my pattern and style, time to switch things up." I thought and switched to a more offensive style of attack. I bounded, lashing my tail back and forth. Jack stepped back and arched his tail over his head. I smiled, " He doesn't know what I'm about to do.", as soon as I was within a couple of paw steps away from Jack, I dropped and slid on the ground. My tail tangled itself around his ankle and pulled him to the ground.

" Huh? Ugh!" I heard Jack grunt as I slid past him. I disentangle my tail from him and rolled to my feet. I turned to see Jack stumbling to his feet, shaking his head. " Hey! Who said that was allowed?!"

" All's fair in a spar as long as you don't do serious damage. " I said, smirking. " So, that move is allowed."

" Fine..." Jack growled and swung his tail side to side in anger. " You're not getting away with that." He charged, his horns gleaming in the light.

" That's what I like to see. A strong and ambitious desire." I muse. " Well, if you want to take revenge that bad, you'll have to catch me first!" I laughed as I danced away from each one of his attempts. I jumped to the left then ducked under his tail. " Not bad, Jack, but in order to catch me, you'll have to be more clever than that!" I retorted as I dodged another of the same attack.

" Oh, is that how it is?" Jack said and charged again. 

" You can't win if you keep using the same attack over and over again." I said and continued to dodge.

"Oh, this time, it's different alright." Jack growled as he charged past me. He whipped his tail to the side like what he did last time. I ducked under it, rolling out of hitting range. As I stood up, a wave of spikes assailed me. I yelped and backed up instinctively. I turned tail and stumbled away from the spikes. I collapsed onto the ground, yelping as my right leg took my weight. I heard Jack shouting from where he stood. " Luna?!" I heard him run over.
