LUNA

" Where am I..?" My eyes snapped open, I felt soft feathers and moss under me, " Why am I here..?" I layed there for a couple of heartbeats, blinking, trying to figure out why I was on a bed of feathers. I was in a cave, a large crystal glowed in the center of the cave and smaller crystals lit the rest of the area. I stretched my wings only to find my left wing stretching. My right wing was tucked against me, wrapped in bandages and tied down with vines. I heard footsteps coming down the tunnel towards me. I caught the scent of Cerberus and another male wolf.. " His scent seems familiar..." I sniffed the air, " Wait... That's Blood's scent! What's he doing here?!"-

"  Really?! She's here?!" the familiar bark of Blood echoed down the tunnel and around the cave. " Why is she here?"

" They're getting close..." I whispered and shifted myself onto my paws, getting ready to walk to the cave entrance to greet them. Then Cerberus' voice stopped me.

" Wait, did you hear that?" Cerberus' bark sounded, " Blood, you should go, she shouldn't know that you're here."

" Right..."  Blood's voice held a hint of sorrow. I heard his steps stepping away from the cave entrance.

" It is Blood!" I shifted back onto my side and placed my head onto my paws, " If they think I'm asleep, then they will come in here! I need to know why Blood's here!" I closed my eyes as Cerberus entered the den.

" Oh, sorry false alarm. Never mind, Blood, she's still asleep. You can come in." Cerberus called to Blood, who cautiously trotted into the cave. " She's over there in the bed of feathers and moss next to the big crystal."

" Thanks, Cerberus, for all the help." Blood said, his paw steps coming closer to me. " It's been so long since I've felt her warmth. I wish this moment could last forever..." I heard him bound over and felt him settle next to me in the feathers and moss.

" Why can't it last forever?" Cerberus growled, " She's right here, once she awakens, you can ask her to go back with you."

" I can't do that... She left the Packs for a reason, a good reason..." Blood whined, " If she believes that it isn't the life for her, then, then I respect her decision."

" Then you could go with her." Cerberus suggested. " If the Packs won't accept you then go to the outside world. You don;t need a Pack to survive."

" But, she might already have a mate..." Blood's voice dropped to a whisper, " Sol seems so close to her... He might already be his mate..."

" How can you be sure? You won't know unless you ask." I heard Blood shift uncomfortably.

" Blood likes me??" I thought, " But then that means... That dream that I had... The prophecy..." I recalled the dream I had back when I was a pup.

A black wolf-dog stood in front of me, his white and red eyes glowing. His tail flicked softly behind him. He smiled at me and padded toward me, his band of dark red fur flashing in the faded light. Overhead a crescent moon hung in a star scattered sky. I gazed up at the sky, forgetting about the strange wolf for a couple of long heartbeats.

" Perhaps it's for the best..." My gaze traveled back to the wolf, he lowered his gaze to the frost covered grass.

" What's wrong?" I tried to ask, but my voice didn't respond to me. I could only listen as the wolf continued.

"... It's meant to be... There's no other explanation..." he continued, " We're meant to be mates..." he whispered. A couple of days latter, Spirit Pelt, the shaman told me that I had a bright future ahead of me. However, it was somewhere else, not in the village. I didn't listen to her, I thought it was just some crazy dream she had.

" The border between light and darkness is thin

Beware of the fraud and the hidden watcher

Find solace in a sanctuary beside and among a pelt of darkness

Under the moon, not stars, an unlikely bond forms..." Spirit Pelt's voice echoed in my mind, repeating the prophecy she told me.  I imagined the sanctuary to be nighttime and I completely ignored the last part about stars, moon, and a bond. I was way too young to understand that stuff. My pupself just thought of it as another meaningless line in the prophecy. The flashback ended.

" I have to tell him... That I like him too..." I thought, remembering how I have been feeling since I left the forest Packs. " I felt like I was missing something... This is what I'm missing... I'm such a dog brained! Why didn't I notice earlier?!"

" Thanks... Father..." Blood's voice rang in my ears. Wait... Father?! My head snapped up at the sound of 'Father'.

" WHAT?!" My yelp echoed, Blood scrambled off the bedding. Cerberus yelped, jumping so high that his head banged against the lowest part of the ceiling of the cave. I covered myself with my wing, no both wings, to shield myself against the shower of rocks. I must have fallen asleep again. The bandage was still there but the vines that bound it were gone.

" OW! You- you're awake!" Cerberus yelped, " R- RUN!!" Blood scrambled to race out the cave.

" Wait..." I whispered just as Blood reached the entrance. He skidded to a halt.

" L-Luna? What is it?" I rose to my paws and, unsteadily, paddled to Blood. I lifted my gaze to meet his eyes. My eyes shone with a mystical light in the cave.

" The border between light and darkness is thin

Beware of the fraud and the hidden watcher

Find solace in a sanctuary beside and among a pelt of darkness.

Under the moon, not stars, an unlikely bond forms..." I whispered, licking his cheek. " Come find me when you're ready..." I extended my wings and flew out of the cave, leaving behind a very confused Blood, "  I'll be waiting..."
