5 Years Later
I watched from the side lines as 4 teenagers walked through the woods. The two girls were squealing against the boys as the boys laughed and teased them. After being the guardian of these woods for 5 years, you get a bit of fame from the people who actually meet you. I was in human form so I had nothing to worry about if they saw me but I couldn’t help but shake my head at their stupidity. Who the hell walks into a forest where there are rumors of a wolf that can eat you? Even if they’re not true, be afraid, be very afraid. I mean, seriously, have these thick headed idiots learned nothing from school or even from their parents, do they think parents tell them not the go somewhere as their own form of amusement? I watched as the boys lifted their flashlights and called the name of the legend that was supposed to be my wolf.
“Oh fire fox… oh fire fox…” one of the guys said with a smirk. The name they gave my wolf pissed me off to no end. First of all: I’m not a freaking fox, I’m a wolf, but obviously people are blind or just plain idiots, or even both. Second of all: How do I look like fire? I know my hair as a human and my fur as a wolf turns a fiery color when in the sunlight but really? Third of all: I sound like that computer program Firefox and that is just a big no-no, I am not an internet surfer.
I stripped down to my birthday suit and shifted before growling, scaring the living snicker-doodles out of the kids. This is the only pleasure I have from this job, that and the freedom I feel from my runs. I watched as the guys looked around until they spotted my dark green eyes staring at them from beside a tree. They screamed before making a run for it. I didn’t even try to run after them as we weren’t too deep into the woods, they could find their own way out without me having to act like a sheep dog. Yes, that actually happens, people can get so scared that they lose all sense of direction and end up deeper into the woods and lost, so I usually scare them in the right direction.

I walked home with my clothes in my mouth, too lazy to change into my human form, when I heard footsteps coming towards me. I placed the clothes in a bush before Simon came out of the bushes and smiled at me. Simon was the only person who wasn’t scared of me, most people would have killed me or hunted me out of the woods but I never actually hurt anyone, just scared the crud out of them so they never bothered. Simon was the boy from when I was younger, I only know his name because we go to school together and he sat next to me in English during freshman year. I knew the guy for 5 years and the only reason I know his name is because I sat next to him at school. I almost knew everything about him, from his favorite movie to his allergies, it’s almost stalker-ish but he talks to me and tells me everything so after a while it sticks. He likes to talk to about his problems when I’m a wolf because he obviously doesn’t know that the girl he sat next to during English is the same wolf that he talks to everyday. I sat down and waited until he was next to me before I placed my head on his lap. He scratched my ears and rubbed my head as we sat in silence. This isn’t one of those kinds of stories if that’s what you’re wondering, Simon and I… well, he will never even know that I’m the wolf.
We sat in silence for a couple of minutes before Simon began to speak. He told about his day and some more about his sports meetings. I was drifting off to sleep when I suddenly heard something interesting.
“I found out something weird today. A girl in one of classes, her name is Wednesday,” Uh oh, he’s talking about me; nothing good can come of this. “She has the same dark green eyes as you do. I noticed when she was in English with me, she’s been in my English class since freshman year, so I know her, and I asked her for an eraser and she pushed her glasses up off the tip of her nose. It was weird but they looked so much like yours, except that they were on her face and not on yours. I would think that you guys would have been the same person had you not been a boy.” And there you have it folks, the boy has had the weirdest idea that I’m a boy and not a girl, not likely I’m going to be correcting him anytime soon but I’m not sure how to take that. I remembered the scene had just described, it had happened this evening during 5th period and I now knew why he had been giving me weird looks after that.
