Right in the North Pole, lived the Governing Elite. Since only four families lived in this special group, they lived in a small village. Four mansions, or as they called them, Golden Houses, resided in the cold unforgiving blizzard.
"Mom, can Andrew and I go out in the snow?" A fourteen year old boy asked his mother.
"Mathew, darling, it's freezing outside. Wouldn't you rather stay indoors?" His mother said.
"But it's snowing!" The boy said.
This was the Golden House of the Raynott family. Even if all four families ruled together, the Raynott family was descendant of The Founder, therefore, they had the last word in everything.
This family was the most powerful. Their home was vast and grand, having three stories, and an extensive back yard. They had butlers, and personal guards for their protection. Their home was adorned in luxurious colors such as rogue, gold, and beige.
Mrs. Raynott was wearing an elegant Victorian rogue and black dress that made a circle around her. The corset was tightly tied and made her appear to have a small waist. She had her blonde hair done into a radiant bun, and her blue eyes were rimmed in melted onyx.
Her sons were Mathew and Andrew. They were identical twins and they had blonde hair and blue eyes like their parents. Normally, pregnancies of the Governing Elite were closely monitored. For the first time in many years, the earl of the Raynott family and his wife had conceived twins. This rare event was frowned upon, since there could only be one heir to the rule of the Isolone. However, the Raynotts decided to keep their two sons and raise them.
Mathew and Andrew were dressed in black suits of the finest silks. Their golden locks were parted in the middle of their foreheads and carefully brushed to their sides. The Founder had manipulated his descendants' genes so that they were "perfect" in his ideals. Because of their biological blueprints, the Raynotts were safe from disease. This was so that the earl may rule for an extended amount of time.
Currently, Mr. Raynott was with the rest of the male Governors planning the upcoming Choosing Ceremony. Meanwhile, Mrs. Raynott stayed in the house with her sons.
"Mathew, stop bothering mother." Andrew walked slowly inside the living room where Mrs. Raynott and Mathew stood. "Perhaps we could spend five minutes out?"
"Hmm. Alright, five minutes only." Mrs. Raynott said and Mathew smiled.
"Come on, let's go Andrew!" Mathew said as he went to his room to put on a coat and scarf.
Once he dressed for the cold weather, he went to the back yard. Andrew was already outside. He had his hands behind his back and he was staring at the clouds. He was wearing a black beanie that covered his blonde hair, and a black scarf covering his mouth.
"It's cold." Mathew commented.
"Quite so. I wonder how long a human can last out here?" Andrew said and turned to his twin.
He walked slowly across the snow, and when he was about to reach the door leading back inside he said:
"Five minutes are up."
Andrew closed the door and locked it. Mathew ran to the door but it wouldn't open. He began hitting the glass as he yelled:
"Andrew! Andrew open the door!"
Mathew was getting colder and colder and started shaking violently. He kept screaming for someone to open the door but no one did. When it had been fifteen minutes, frost was already on Mathew's face.
Suddenly, the door opened and Mathew ran inside. He went to his room and sat in front of the warm fire. He extended his palms to the fire and leaned in to allow the warmth to melt the ice on him. Andrew appeared at the doorway of the room they shared with an ominous smile. He ran to Mathew and held him close.
"Mathew what happened to you?" Andrew said loudly.
High heels resounded in the hall and their mother appeared.
"Mathew why are you shivering so much?" She asked as she ran to him.
"A-Andrew l-locked m-me o-out . . . " Mathew answered in a voice so low no one heard him.
"He said the door got locked. I didn't notice he wasn't here until now. I was looking for him." Andrew said to his mother.
"Oh you poor thing!" Mrs. Raynott said.
If it weren't because Mathew was so cold, he would've turned and yelled at his twin. His mother left and Mathew laid on the carpet near the fire. Andrew looked down at him with a sinister shadow and smiled as he left.
