It wasn't easy growing up with a disabled brother and sister, as I had to grow up extremely fast to help my mother, Catherine or Cath as she prefers to be called. I took on the role of helping my mum with the house work and helping with my sister. As my dad was at work earning money for us.Don't get me wrong, I had friends and I used to play out on my street, with my bestfriend- like sister, Poppy and her sister Molly.
But as a child, I had to learn that I was not going to get a lot of attention like any of my other friends. My sister and brother needed it due to their disabilities, and as a child I completely understood.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not going to say I didn't get jealous because absolutely did. Anyone would to be honest, but you just learn how to deal with it.
My sister, Alexandra, also named 'alex', has Down syndrome and severe autism. She can't speak and needs 24 hours care a day. She is now 21 years old and I am 17. She is the most beautiful and happy soul. People may say people like her 'suffer' with her disability, but that is absolutely not the case.
She loves life, laughs and is absolutely mischievous. For example, when calling her naughty she does this little giggle and it gives me the greatest joy in the world.
You see, me and my sister are close and I take on a mothering role for her.
My brother, Andrew. Who prefers to be called 'Andy', but I call him Andrew to annoy him. Has Cerebral palsy and hydrocephalus due to complications of birth. I guess you can say he suffers a bit due to pain because of his legs. But apart from that lives a complete 'normal' life. He has his own Flat and lives independently.
My Mother, Catherine. Is my complete hero, she hasn't had an easy life as well. But that isn't my story to tell. My mum suffers with severe depression, anxiety and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, also known as PTSD, due to various reason. One being that she found her brother, my uncle Iain dead, due to his addiction to alcohol. I also care for her, a shoulder to cry on and a hug whenever she needs me. I help her around the house and here to listen for when she has her 'bad days'. She is the most beautiful, strong soul I have ever met.
Don't get me wrong, she can be infuriating at times, but what mother isn't?
My father, Shaun. Is a complete star, he's hilarious and we have the most sickest sense of humour, but who doesn't when you grow up with disabled siblings and unfortunate events? He's a Mechanic and has been for all of his life. He's my rock, and you could say that I'm a 'daddy's princess'. He's my partner in crime and we do everything together. Mostly we take the absolute piss out of everything making it in to some sort of joke or dig. We are extremely sarcastic, sometimes too sarcastic. We sometimes get in trouble with my mum over it.
My niece, Samantha. Nickname Sam. Is 10 years of age. I also care for her and take on a mothering role to her. I think that it's my responsibility to guide her and care for her in the world. At a young age, she has unfortunately seen too much- some of it my fault. She's quite mature for her age also, but as all children can act up and be completely annoying. We have grown up close and are more like sisters due to the 7 years of age difference. She's my oldest brother, Karl's child.
My un- biological sister, Poppy. She's short, but taller than me standing at 5'1. I've known her since I was three, and she two. I can't remember our first meeting because we were obviously so young. But she's my rock, she helps with my sister and my sister adores her completely. She's been there through my dark times and didn't leave me once. She took me for all my flaws and didn't mind. The thing I love about poppy is that she never asks any questions. She waits for me to open up, which I always do... eventually. She's a complete animal lover and completely over-protective of me, as I am with her. Sometimes, she comes over to my house (which is like 10 steps away), to just nap or chill. Sometimes we don't even talk, that's what I like though sometimes. I find it reassuring. There if I need to talk. She's a complete animal lover and takes it to the extreme. So am I, but not as extreme as she is. She studies Animal Care at Bury College.
My best-friend, Sophie. Is the same age as me, studies performing arts and is an aspiring actress. When I first met her we was in year 7, studying at Elton High School, in Bury. We was in the same science lessons and we spoke but we wasn't that close. When I moved school, for reasons you will soon find out. I ended it moving back to Elton High School. We original got in contact as we went to the same Drama, outside of school. When I moved back we became extremely close and I began to confide in her as she did me. She's extremely sexual and always has some sort sexual innuendos to announce, but looks completely innocent. It just proves looks can be deceiving. Again she's small, smaller than me teaching her 4'9 frame. When I met her she was extremely quite, you can say I took her out of her shell and now she never shuts up. Like poppy, she has took my flaws and helped me through so much. I hope I have returned the favour. Again, she is extremely over protective, as I am for her.
You can say I like to look out for my friends and guide them in the right way. I of course have more friends than that, but Sophie and Poppy are the most important and you could say that I would die for them.
Then there is me, Megan Miller. The youngest of the family, yet with large responsibility. I study Health and Social Care at Bury College and would hope to me a Mental Health Nurse. For reasons you will find out eventually. I am 5'0 in height, bright red hair, green eyes and pale skin. Extremely sarcastic, that it comes naturally, brutally honest- sometimes too much for my own good, loud, an open book, over protective and sometimes violent- but I'm just going to blame that on my height and hair colour. I am just your average teenage girl, with PTSD, cyclothymic disorder and anxiety, which I will go into detail about.
Welcome to my life, and the journey that has took place so far.
