Skimming the first few pages revealed the book was actually written in English. Perhaps "book" is the wrong word. It felt more like a tome. It was heavy and thick, not to mention old.
At least it was still in good condition.
I ran my hand over the cover, letting the old texture sink in. I was enamored with my find, I have found one of the oldest tomes about defensive spells.
Sound of glass breaking snapped me back into the real world.
The windows were far too high for me to peer out, but I knew I heard the shatter come from beyond them.
Something had broken against the outside wall.
-What on Earth...
I closed my eyes, listening.
It sounded like somebody was talking.
-She...in...You...do it...Y/N....stupid....
I opened my eyes just in time to see a flaming bottle smash against one of the windows. Glass shattered as flames erupted away from the window. Shards of glass burned as they fell to the floor.
-What the...
(Aham! Language!)
Another bottle followed, flying gracefully through the opening last one created. It shattered against the floor in front of me. Pieces of flaming glass jumped toward me. I lifted my arm up, wincing as bits of fire bounced off my sleeve.
My heart pounded in my chest as I heard something breaking against the wall outside again.
-Fire....again?
My voice was hoarse.
-Someone's fire-bombing the library!
I stumbled back, clutching the book to my chest.
-Somebody help!
Another bottle hit the window.
The window shattered, bottle didn't.
It fell in burning arc until it struck the corner of the shelf. Wood and paper ignited instantly.
A noticeable amount of smoke filled the room.
Finally, I thought better of sticking around. I whipped around and sprinted for the nearest set of doors. They flung open before I reached them. A man stared past me with an expression of shock and fear.
-I didn't saw the librarian leave! She is maybe still inside!
I yelled to him, not seeing who it is from smoke in the room. I nodded and I sprinted past him, running as far from the library as I could.
Voices and shouts filled the halls of the manor. People scrambled to get outside.
I stumbled when I reached the front steps and rolled into their lawn.
Somehow, I still had that book in my arms.
Red and blue lights approached in the distance.
Several people outside were staring at me. I recognized most of them as servants from around the house. I saw Elizabeth running to my side with amazing speed.
-Y/N! Your shirt is burning!
She said and split some water on me.
-Well you have some amazing running skills! Do you have a super speed or something?
She chuckled a little.
-From some reason everyone seams to think that.
-Well it looks like that.
-No. I am just really fast. It's not a special power.
We laughed and some servants stared at us like they are fangirling. I looked at them and they turned around pretending that nothing happened. What the Hell..
-Liz...
-Hmm?
-People are staring at us...
She looked around to catch some glances of servants. Her expression shifted from worried to embarrassed. Her cheeks became red.
-They think that we are couple....
-What?! How do you know?
-I can hear their whispers....I'm sorry...
-Don't be! As long as we know that that's not truth everything is okay. Let them think whatever they want.
A small smile showed up on her face. She helped me get up and we left to guest house. A few chuckles came from the crowd around us.
Before we got in I saw Mr. Leavitt.
-Did they catch them?
I yelled so he could hear me.
-Who?
When he turned around I recognized him as a man who opened the library doors.
-Whoever was throwing those fire-bombs.
Murmurs filled the crowd around us.
-Is that how the fire got started?
I nodded.
-Someone was throwing them from outside.
-Can you go to that policeman and tell him what happened down there? I have to go and see where is that fire truck.
-Of course Mr. Leavitt.
I said and Elizabeth and I left to policeman. I told him everything and thing about voices too.
-And what about that book?
-Oh this is book I went to borrow. Nothing important for your case.
Elizabeth looked at the book in my arms and tried to see what is it about. I covered it with my arms thinking it's not the smartest thing for them to know that I'm interested in magic.
Few moments later fire truck drove through the gates and start to put off that fire.
-I think that whoever did this wanted to harm you miss Y/N. As you said, they did mention you in their conversation and they knew that you were in the library. I think that is the best to go to your house now and to never be alone until we find the ones who did this. Be safe miss. I'll leave you now.
Policeman said and left to his car. Elizabeth looked at me with smirk on her face.
-Oh no what are you thinking about now?
-We should share a room since you have to be with someone all the time.
-We could have a party!
-Yeah!
-You could call some of your friends since all my friends are trying to kill us...
-You think that they did this?
-I wouldn't be surprised...
-I could call some friends...or just one that I know that will 100% come.
-Do that. I'll go to find some blankets and pillows and everything else we need.
-Okay!
She turned around and ran toward her mother. I ran to my room. I should hide some of these things. Just some suspicious books about portals and how to make them, but as I said, I have never tried to use magic. I have found blankets and pillows and food.
Long chapter again, but I hope you guys will enjoy. I'll publish one more in hour. I have soooo many ideas! Vote and comment!
