"You want to go out for dinner?" I asked, confused.
"Yes indeed, why is that so weird to grasp?" I looked at her and sighed.
"It's surprising is all.... You kinda hate me".
"What gave you that impression?" I sighed once again and got up.
"I'm gonna go take a shower... I'll be out in a bit..." I stretched and got into the bathroom. Undressing, I heard the other shower turn on and turned my own on. Cold shower I guess.
As I showered, I thought for a bit. Why did I even let her move in? She's insane and a complete moodboard. I don't know what the he'll to think... As I thought to myself, I heard the other shower stop and I cleaned myself quickly, getting out. Wrapping a towel around myself, I opened the door and headed to my room. Valentine tapped my shoulder, making me turn around. She was also wearing a towel, barely dry. "What?" I asked.
"What would you like to eat?"
"Can't this question wait until after I get dressed?"
"Well I would like to know".
"There's a diner downtown... We can just go there or something..."
"Okay". She closed the door and I groaned. Getting into my usual clothes, I stepped out of my room and saw Valentine waiting in the living room. She wore sweats and a sweater which was odd for her, as she usually wore miniskirts or anything formal. She had a small pocketbook next to her with what I could make out as a few scalpels and syringes.
"Do you always carry those around?" I asked, leaning on the door frame.
"What?"
"The scalpels and such, those things required?"
"They're.... Mementos, from my previous job".
I shrugged and went into my kitchen. Grabbing my keys, I held the door open for Valentine and she quietly stepped out past me. I got into my car and waited, sighing.
We drove silently and tiredly. It was still fairly dark out and neither of us wanted to speak. As I drove through New Meridian, I passed by The Cathedral. Valentine seemed to shift a bit in her seat. "What's wrong?" I asked a bit smugly, "Afraid if a dusty old building?"
"If you knew what happened in those walls you would be too..." Valentine mumbled. I laughed a bit as I slowed to the city speed limit. I felt a cold sweat suddenly come over me. My heart started to pound. I had no idea why. My vision started to blur and I put my hand against my forehead.
"Something wrong?" Valentine asked.
"I don't know... It might be a migraine or something..." I tried to pull over but the pain in my head started to pound. I pulled both hands off the wheel in a feat of hysterical pain and Valentine practically shouted as she pulled us over from the passenger's seat. I couldn't see, though I could tell my eyes were wide open. I could feel my seatbelt being unbuckled. Before I knew it, I had lost cosnciousness.

Waking up, I found myself in the backseat of the car. I sat up and found my clothing had been removed. Did my roommate just roofie me! I quietly found my clothing and looked for Valentine. She was sitting on the hood of the car. I got up and opened the car door. Stepping out, I looked around and saw we were on a cliff. Desert sat behind us with a lonely cracked road leading to this old lookout point over New Meridian. "What did you do to me?" I asked Valentine a bit cautiously. Valentine simply scooted over and pat the seat next to me. I quietly sat next to her and she handed me a take out box from a restaurant I didn't recognize.
"It'll be a bit cold but you should eat, you lost a lot of energy back there". I looked at her and she seemed a bit solemn. I quietly opened the box and ate next to her. "I'm sorry for not warning you about The Cathedral".
"What do you mean?" I looked at her a bit worriedly and very slowly scooted away from her.
"When I first... Er... Attacked you - sorry about that by the way - I was told to do so by my Lab".
"What would they want with me?"
"The ASG Labs have eyes all around the city... And one of our eyes saw that you were brimming with Skullgirl Blood -" I froze a bit. I never knew much about my relatives but surely none of them had become the Skullgirl. "- and they thought that your connection to the Skullheart would have lead you to be the next Skullgirl".
"So... Why did I pass out at the Cathedral?"
"Don't tell anyone this but... I know where the Skullheart is". With that I chuckled a little.
"No way, now you're messing with me".
"The Skullheary started to prey on you when we passed the Cathedral... The farther you got the more it started to sap your energy, wanting you to get close to it... I should have told you to detour it or something, but I couldn't, you wouldn't believe me". I looked her in the eye and saw the guilt in it. She was telling the truth.
"Valentine..." I reached out for her hand and gently held it. "You know this isn't your fault?" She looked at me a little surprised.
"You're not mad?"
"I mean... I probably should be... But I'm a little dumb around pretty girls..." My eyes widened as I realized I let that slip. Valentine chuckled and I blushed a wee bit.
"I apologize for being so cold before, my friends have a bad history of... Not being around for a long time". I looked at her and she looked away a bit worriedly.
"Well... I promise I can stay out of trouble". I smiled at her as the moon started to shine on the both of us. Soon it was just the comfortable silence of spending time with her. My heart fluttered a bit as I scooted ever closer to her. I allowed myself to lean against her and closed my eyes with a blissful sigh. Valentine made no move to either remove me or reciprocate the affection, but I couldn't have cared either way. I was just happy to be with her.
