I woke up to a beeping alarm clock and panicked mumbling. I highly opened my eyes and looked around. Carol's stuff was all over the floor and her alarm was still going. I turned it off and stepped outside, yawning. I felt Carol bump into me and I barely caught her.
"I-I'm sorry!" she stuttered nervously.
"It's okay, you need a ride to school kid?" Carol blushed and nodded. "Okay okay, lemme get dressed and I'll be out in a jiff!" I went back to my room and got into my work clothes.
"A-are you ready?" Carol asked nervously through the door.
"Yeah!" I stepped out and Carol stood in her school uniform. "No cello?"
Carol seemed to get nervous when I asked. "N-not today... It's a hobby, I-I don't bring it to school..." I shrugged and went to my car. Carol followed and got in the back, hurrying me to start the car.
"Don't worry! You won't be late," I said, trying to soothe her. She breathed heavily and I started the car. As I drove, she started to get more and more antsy. "So what grade are you in?" I asked.
"S-sophomore...." she stammered quietly.
"Huh, you seemed a little younger..."
"I-I'm fifteen I just.... I'm very tiny...."
"It's okay! I'm not exactly tall myself". We drove for a bit before we can to a red light. I checked the time. 7:50. "I told ya we wouldn't be late!"
"I-I'm sorry.... It's just..... I usually meet up with a friend before school..."
"Well at least you have friends," I joked.
"Well y-you must have?"
"Nope! I was a loner, but I helped when I could!" Carol seemed to get nervous. When I finally pulled into the school I wrapped my arms around her and pulled her in for a tight hug. Carol squirmed a bit and I let go. "Sorry! Sorry! I forgot I can't just do that to everyone". She hesitantly hugged me and I smiled. "There you go, feelin better?"
She nodded and I mussed her hair. I smiled and she got out of the car, waving me goodbye. I waved back and pulled out of the parking lot. I sighed and got to work.

I waited in the school parking lot. The sun was setting and it was cooling down. As Carol walked to the car I opened the door and smiled. She blushed and moved quicker, quietly getting in. As she quietly got into the car, I started to drive. "How was your day?" I asked.
"I-it was okay..."
I frowned. "Something wrong?"
"I-It's nothing..... Just the usual bullies...."
"That's not good!"
"I-it's okay, m-my friend helps me through it..." I sighed and drove home. When we got inside, Dill barked happily and jumped on Carol. She yelped and I picked Dill up.
"Don't like loud noises huh?"
She nodded.
"It's alright". I put down the dog and sent him to my room. With a quiet sigh I sat next to Carol and she quietly leaned back into the couch. "Do you have any homework? Cuz I was thinking that we could maybe go see a movie... Or go out to eat?" I smiled softly and she shrugged.
"I guess going out to eat wouldn't be a bad idea?" Carol seemed a bit hesitant on leaving the house.
"Only if you want to, just food for thought". I stretched and headed back into my garden. As I picked some of the vegetables I heard the creaky screen door open and shut. I looked back and carol had put on some new clothing. She threw a scarf on her neck and wore some jeans and a sweater. I smiled and she softly smiled back. "What do you think?" I asked with a smile.
"It's a beautiful garden m-miss!" Carol seemed much more lively than before. I welcomed the change in attitude and waved her over to me. When she reached me I handed her a basket and smiled. "Wanna help me out? Maybe spending some time in the fresh air is what we need to unwind?" Carol nodded and started to help me pick some of my garden. When we got tired about half of the garden was harvested. I smiled softly and mussed her hair again. She giggled a bit and looked at me shyly.
"Okay, I'm gonna change so we can go out to eat, could you bring these in?" She picked up the baskets of vegetables and nodded happily.

After changing I quickly brought her to my car and showed her to my favorite restaurant in the whole wide world. When we entered she was a bit nervous as she had never had Thai food but I had convinced her to just go with the flow. When we sat down I sighed and rested my chin on my hand. As she looked at the menu she started to panic.
"A-all of this is kind of expensive, a-are you sure I can order this stuff?"
"Well... The smart answer would be no but... It doesn't hurt spending a little extra every once and a while?" I smiled and Carol ran around the table, hugging me tight.
"Thank you mom!" She said with such glee. I hugged her back and she pulled away. "S-sorry... I forgot to not call you that..." I shook my head and hugged her again.
"Call me whatever you want..." I said softly. Carol hugged me again - with surprising strength this time. I held her close and closed my eyes. I couldn't have been happier in that moment.
