Hearing his mom drone on, Jack rests his head on the window of the car.

"When we're home I'll drop off the stuff and then we'll meet you dad at Aunt Genes party, okay?"

     "Okay mom"

"Oh and wear that nice button down I got you," she says and Jack nods, wishing he could turn up the music.

"So when we get home you go run up and get ready," she orders. "and remember don't eat those cookies I made. They're your fathers favorite," she says puffing out her chest.

"Yeah... I know," he mumbles just as they pull into the driveway.

"Okay now go quick and put on your shirt and Sean I mean quick!" She yells quickly as he shuts the door to his room.

Collapsing on his bed he can feel tears brimming at his eyelids. This year, this holiday, just wasn't right. Pulling out his phone he clicks on Marks contact, needing to talk to him.

Jack: I thought I could do this but I miss you so much. Christmas just isn't the same
without our rituals

Mark: I know what you mean...

Jack: I just want to sit under your stupidly ugly Christmas tree and drink hot chocolate that still has chunks of powder and I want you to be at this gross holiday party with me like every year

Mark: Just imagine I'm there. It'll be easier than you think

Jack: I love you

Mark: I love you too green bean

"Are you dressed yet?" His mother yells from down the hall and wiping his tear stained face he yells back to her.

"One more minute," He wants it to come out normally but instead it comes out half a sob.

Suddenly she's right outside his room. "Hey Jack are you okay?" She asks knocking.
He suck it up but then, looking at his lock screen, a picture of him and Mark last Christmas, he breaks down into heavy sobs.

"I miss him mom," he cries and she opens the door, rushing to his side.

"Oh honey," she scoops him up into her arms and cradles him like a child.

"I just want him here with me," he says his voice breaking on every word.

"Shhh," she hums, rocking back and forth. "It's okay. It's okay,"

He pulls away so he can look at her face. "But mom it's not. Every Christmas for the last four years we've done the same thing and now he's gone," thinking about his face he begins to start crying again, collapsing back into her arms.

"I know. I know. Maybe we can buy you a ticket to see him soon,"

"Wait really?" Jack lifts his head up and looks her in the eye, a ghost of a smile on his lips.

"If that's what you really want," she smiles and Jack throws his arms around her squeezing her.

"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!"

"Okay ready to go to Aunt Genes now?"

Wiping his tears, Jack grins. "I'll be right down,"

Upon walking into the party his mom is ushered away and he's left standing at the door.

"Jack!" A group calls and he turns to his left to see his cousins waving him over.

"Hey how are you?" Jack asks once standing next to them and Matthew, normally called Matt, rolls his eyes.

"Cut the small talk, old man. We're not fifty yet," he taunts. "Where the hell is Mark?" and immediately Elisha elbows him hard in the side.

    "Dude shut up!"

"What did you guys breakup or something?" He asks, turning red and Jack shakes his head.

"He moved," Jack mumbles, looking down.

"Oh... sorry. You guys trying to make it work?"

Jack shrugs. "Yeah and it's been okay. Mom said she might buy me a ticket to see him soon,"

"That's awesome!" Elisha says. "You guys were always the absolute cutest. I'm like totally jealous,"

"You're thirteen Elisha you don't need to be dating anytime soon," Matt says and Elisha punches him.

"I'll have you know me and Dominic are really happy right now. We just broke our record of three weeks,"

Jack smiles. "Yeah? Good for you guys. I'm just going on five years," he says casually and Elisha drops her jaw.

"You and Mark have been dating for five years... do you love him?" She asks, narrowing her eyes.

"Hard not to love such a wonderful person," and saying that he thinks back to all the Christmas's they've had together. Snowball fights that would end with them both cuddled under blankets, freezing. Giving gifts that are thoughtful and treasured.
Standing under every mistletoe just to have an excuse to kiss.

"What do you love about him?" Matt asks suddenly and Jack looks up.

     "Huh?"

"Like what made you fall in love with him? What made Mark so special?"

Jack pauses thinking hard before speaking. "With Mark I never fell in love, I walked into it. It felt natural and pure," he shakes his head. "It's almost indescribable. It's just sometimes you get to know the person and then, just like that, you know. So you walk into their arms, and I don't know, you melt. You melt into the feeling of them. You melt into the feeling you get looking and thinking about them. It's something just simply wonderful," he doesn't realize his eyes are shut until he opens them and Matt and Elisha are looking at him with a look of pure joy.

"Hey Jack," and hearing the voice behind him he whirls around. He freezes before it all comes into focus.

"Mark!" He screeches. "Mark! Mark! Mark!" He runs at him with full force, almost knocking him over.

"I'm here," he whispers, beginning to cry and Jack pulls back.

"But why? What're you doing here?"

"I couldn't not see my little green bean now could I?"

Then pulling his face in, Jack kisses him. He can feel his cold nose and his icy hands on the back of his neck but he couldn't care less. Mark was here. He was really here and they were kissing.

Pulling back for a breath, they rest forehead to forehead, well aware that by now everyone is watching them.

"Merry Christmas Jack," Mark whispers and pulling into a hug Jack nods.

"Merry Christmas to you too Mark,"
