My best friend Calum sat beside me as I waited for my race. I could see the disapproving scowl on his face from the corner of my eye. He never liked me street racing but he always came to my races; he wouldn't miss them for the world. Calum turned to me, looking ready to speak. I already knew what he was going to say but I let him say it anyway.
"You know your Dad would still be proud of you if you didn't race. I mean you've done so much ele in your life and you have so much more you can do. He would be so enormously proud of you. You don't need to follow his racing career for him. Not if you don't want to."
I could lip sync Calum's speech, he said it to me so oftern.
"But I do enjoy racing Cal. I am my father's daughter."
Calum sighed. He never won this fight.
"Just make sure you stay as safe as you can in that four wheeled death box."
I cracked a smile. Claum always had a way to make you smile.
My name was called and me and Claum went to my car. He helped buckle me in as per usual.
"You don't have to do this," Calum said again.
"So I've heard."
"There's more dangerous people on the track today."
"All the more fun."
"What am I going to do with you?" Calum sighed.
"Getting out of my window and letting me race seems like a good place to start."
Calum ducked out of the car window. He really wasn't happy about this; he never was
Street racing had always been a passion of mine. My Dad had done it before he had died, during a proper race. My Dad had always told me that street racing was safer than Pro racing, no matter what anybody said. And I listened to him. I had been offered Pro spots but I would never take them.
My race started with a normal rush of speed from everyone. After the first couple of bends the dangerous drivers showed themselves. They zig zagged in front of other cars. You had to be careful around zig zaggers. No matter how fast I was going, I always slowed around them. I didn't have to win every single race.
I actually won the race. I managed to scoot in front of the zig zaggers and pull off a skid finish. I jumped out of the car into the awaiting arms of Calum.
"I thought you were dead with those drivers!"
"But I'm not."
"You're not racing again. You nearly gave me a heart attack."
Good luck with that Calum, I was racing.
