The Chosen One
Andrew Coles"Crap" I whispered as I came back to my empty snare, it appears as if the snare was triggered however it didn't catch anything.
"Well, boss man won't be happy about that" I mumbled to myself.
I worked for the Taskmaster, he ran a small blacksmith shop inside of Guard post. After my parents death when I was at a young age the Taskmaster took me under his wing, and tried to teach me how to mend metals to make weapons and Armour, granted I wasn't all that good with it back then. So he taught me how to hunt, and how to trap, now hunt for him for money. If I fail to bring him back anything (like today) he gives me rations for the day to buy food, but that's about it. If I actually come back with something then he pays me extra to buy stuff like books, clothes, and other items of my interest. The Taskmaster even let me live in the second floor of the Blacksmith shop, he also had a room up there which he mainly uses for naps in between shifts. The Taskmaster doesn't actually live there, but he lets me live there provided I continue to work for him and I clean up after myself. Don't get me wrong. he's not winning any father of the year awards, but he's a good guy.
After about twenty minutes of walking, I made it back to the Blacksmith shop and walked inside.
I watched as all of the Task Masters employees were moving boxes around and packing things into boxes.
Were they leaving?
I found the Taskmaster and approached him.
"Whats going on?" I asked.
The Taskmaster turned to face me, he stuffed his gold chained watch into his pocket and answered.
"Well, I uh...made a deal"
I exhaled.
"I told you not to make deals with bounty hunters" I spoke.
He shrugged.
"I mean, he wasn't really a bounty hunter, but anyways. He got caught and although nobody has said anything yet, We're just closing down for a week or two until this all blows over" The Taskmaster spoke nodding his head.
I looked around the shop again.
"Why all the boxes then? I mean they're moving the boxes outside?" I asked.
"Oh ya, right, So we're actually moving locations, further outside the City. Figured we could reach a new market. Now, this building is still my property so your good to live here, in fact we may setup a ordering like system using this building, not sure yet, either way, can you bring a box to the new location for me?" The Task Master asked.
I nodded.
"Sure, but why only one box?" I asked
"Well, it's a box containing some of my new designs so I don't want it to get lost with all the other boxes being moved over there, mind taking it to the new location now?" He asked.
"Yes sir" I said as the Taskmaster grabbed a small cardboard box from a table and handed it to me. The box was surprisingly light. The Taskmaster then handed me a map with a address and a black marker trail on it leading to the new location.
...
After about half a hour of trying to find my way to this new location, I realized that I made it, only I didn't find a building, or the other trucks from the Blacksmith shop like I expected, I stood in the middle of the forest.
"Well...this sucks" I whispered.
I grabbed the map again and doubled checked if I was in the right location. I was close.
