Hi! I'm Dave, and I have no red string. By red string I mean the red string everyone has attached to their ring finger on their left hand. This string connects people to their soul mate. The string is only visible by it's wearer, so no one knows I don't have the string.
I'm sitting in class staring, staring at my hand wondering why. Why I don't have the string. I hear the bell ring but, it feels distant, and its barely audible. The teacher calls for attention in the distance. I see the students around me turn in the teacher's direction. They were all blurry. The teacher started to speak saying, "We have a new student. Please welcome Megan Starlight!" The door opened to reveal a girl with long red hair and a floral print dress. She walked to the center front of the classroom, turned to the class, and chirped, "Hi, I'm Megan. I hope we can be friends." She waved to the class and, in response the class waved back. She clearly had caught everyone's attention.
Suddenly I felt something or someone tug on my hand. I looked down at my left hand to see a red string attached to my ring finger. I had a red string! I was astound. I had the red string, my own personal red string! Which means I do have a soul mate! Not only did I now have a string but, my string was out of control, wiggling and tugging, trying to get my attention.
I heard a voice from next to me whisper, "Hey class is starting." I looked up to see that it was Megan, the new girl.
"Oh, hi." I responded, "Thanks for telling me. I wasn't paying attention."
After that we began to talk to each other on a daily basis. I mean she did sit right next to me. We talked just a little bit at first, mostly about projects and question answers. We then started to talk about ourselves. Simple things like our favorite colors or our hobbies. Soon it turned into talking of our experiences in life. We got closer and closer as the days passed.
One day I walked into class, no one was there except for me and Megan. I had gotten there early and, I guess she had too. I sat down in my seat and was about to say hi when my red string started going out of control again. It was tugging on my hand so, I decided to follow the string.
I followed it with my eyes realizing that my string lead to Megan. Megan. Why her? Does that mean that she is my soul mate? She looked at me noticing that I was staring at her hand. She looked down at her hand, well her red string I assume. She stared at the string for a while, suddenly looking up to say, "So, your my soul mate, right? I don't remember exactly what this red string means."
Her face turned bright red as I replied sheepishly, "Yeah, this string means we're soul mates." We both sat there silently, blushing.
Without thinking I kissed Megan. Her lips were soft and tasted like cherry chapstick. I pulled away. She stared at me in shock. Her face was bright red. This caused me to blush as well.
Three months later. We walked down the street holding hands. Just Megan and me. I thought back to the day I meet her and smiled. I squeezed her hand gently. In response she turned and kissed me on the cheek, "I love you," she chirped.
"I love you too, Megan."
A few years later we got married and had two kids, Louis and Rose. They're twins, with red hair like their mother and blue eyes like me.
"And that, is how I met your mother. Goodnight Rose, goodnight Louis. I love you both."
"I love you too dad," Rose and Louis said in unison as they curled up under their blankets.
Like I said, we lived happily ever after.
