After Jewel left I watched Mulan, over and over again. It was my favorite movie, and her's as well, which made me love it even more.
I sighed as I laid down and stared at the ceiling. I wished I hadn't told Jewel to go. I missed her company. She meant a lot to me, but I'd never tell her how much she did mean to me. It could ruin our friendship, and the only friendship I have, other than Alfred. He'd always be my friend.
Suddenly someone knocked on my door.
"Tyler?" Alfred said from the other side of the door.
"Come in," I replied. I turned to look at him as I heard the door open. Alfred walked in and stood beside me.
"Have you heard what the neighbors have been saying at the barbecue?" He asked.
"No...What are they saying?" I asked, curious. I hoped it was good.
"They're saying that Jewel was talking to her friend, Arika, about having a crush on you," He said, "If it's true then that means she likes you back. That's great!"
"I must go find out, but I don't wanna ask her. That's embarrassing. Plus what if she rejects me," I went from being confident to freaking out.
"Calm down. It'll be okay, and if she doesn't like you then she's missing out," He said calmly as he patted my shoulder, trying to comfort me.
"But..but-"
"No, go to the barbecue and talk to her," He said, lightly pushing me toward the door.
"But dad said I can't be at the barbecue," I protested.
"I'll cover for you. This is your chance. Now go!" He said as he pushed me out of my room. I took a deep breath and collected myself. 'Okay, Tyler, you can do this. Just tell her you like her. It's okay. This is your chance. It'll be easy' I told myself. I walked down the stairs and rushed out of the door before anyone could notice.
I ran down the street toward the park.
Once I got there I started to look for her.
"H-have you seen Jewel Fellya?" I asked a girl that looked to be about my age.
"Actually, she's my best friend. You're Tyler Wishum, right?" I nodded. "One sec. I'll go get her."
"Thank you," I said quietly.
"Of course," She said happily. She walked off. I looked around to see people staring at me. I looked down and started to fidget with the hem of my shirt.
"Look it's Tyler Wishum. What is he doing here?" People murmured. I started to get uncomfortable. I wish I could become invisible at times like this.
"Hey Tyler," Jewel said as she tapped my shoulder. I lifted my head to look at her. She smiled. I blushed lightly.
"H-hi," I stuttered.
"What are you doing here? I thought your dad said you couldn't come," She said, clearly confused.
"He did, but Alfred said he'd cover for me. I g-gotta tell you something i-important," I replied, blushing. She blushed as well.
"O-okay. Let's talk over h-here," She said, grabbing my hand. My blush darkened. She pulled me over to a tree about ten feet away from everyone else. They were all staring, while trying to make it seem like they weren't. I turned to face her.
"I c-came to tell you I l-like you, a l-lot, well I don't just l-like you, I l-love you," I stuttered, blushing darkly. Her face turned bright red.
"I-i...I, uh...." She tried to reply, clearly struggling to speak.
I said, trying my best not to sound disappointed, "If you don't l-love me b-back its-"
"No!" She yelled, she blushed darkly, "I-i do, love you b-back, I mean." She bit her lip and looked down, fidgeting with her hands.
I cupped her face hesitantly. She looked up at me, then closed her eyes. I leaned forward and kissed her. I heard cheering in the distance, but ignored it. She kissed back, wrapping her arms around my neck.
After what seemed like forever I pulled away and smiled, blushing darkly. Jewel opened her eyes and smiled back at me. Her cheeks were light pink.
"I love you," She said quietly.
My smile widened, "I love you too." I turned my head to see everyone staring at us. I blushed darkly.
"Hey, do you wanna go back to your house and watch Mulan?" Jewel whispered into my ear. I nodded. She grabbed my hand and started to walk toward my house, smiling.
This had turned out much better than I had expected. Jewel loved me back, I was overjoyed. I giggled and smiled happily.
