It was hard to wipe the smile off his face. He was happy, beyond happy, exhilarated. As he made his way to his office, he got several surprised looks--the always serious looking boss had a grin on his face; it was indeed a rare feat. Neil didn't try to cover up his happiness, his Fire finally said yes. Well, there were a few conditions attached but it didn't really matter to Neil at that moment. His little Spitfire was going to be bound to him legally. He never thought a day would come that he would be so excited about getting married.
Once Morgan saw him, she got up, quickly hid her surprise at how happy her boss looked and followed him while informing him of his schedule for the day.
"Mr Smith's flight got delayed in London so he will miss the lunch appointment. I've moved him to 4 o'clock here at the office. Your father called and requested a meeting and I scheduled it for lunch today. I didn't cancel the reservations at the Palace and asked your father to meet you there. There is a stack on your desk that need your urgent signature. The reports from Australia are in the red folder on your drawer. Accounting and marketing are both meeting today at 10 and 2 respectively and asked if you would be present. You have the morning free of meeting till lunch. HR also wanted to go over the next hiring plan." They had reached his office and he was already seated by the time she finished.
"I'm leaving right after the meeting with Mr Smith today, so don't schedule anything else. See to it that I don't have anything after 6 p.m henceforth. Will you also please call my mother and ask if she would like to join us for lunch today? I'll stop by Accounting for a bit but can't make it to marketing. HR will have to wait or if they can't, just handle it yourself."
"Noted sir. Is there anything else?"
"Yes, I need a phone, get me the latest model, I don't care about the cost. Add it to my personal plan. Program all my contact info, even my personal number in it. Put in your contact and that of Alfred too."He added the last part as an afterthought.
"You are allowed to interrupt me if the number ever calls."
"Ok sir."
"Thank you." He was already diving in the files and that was Morgan's queue that she was dismissed.
Neil worked non stop till lunch time. His work load seemed to have double and he barely made it on time to the restaurant. His father was already at the table, scanning the menu. His father was a very reserved person. Unless needed, he didn't talk, he rarely smiled or showed affection. Sometimes Neil when serious or at work was just like his father. However, he knew how to relax and let go when needed.
"Father." Neil greeted. Karl stood up and gave his son a solid hug before sitting. He set back the menu and looked at his son. Neil looked happy. There was a sparkle in his eyes that lighten up his whole face and Karl was pleased to see his son like that. He knew he was rarely affectionate but he made sure that his family knew he cared and they matter to him.
"How are you son?"
The father and son caught up with each other for a while then decided to get over with business before Mrs Kramer joined them who would be a bit late because of a prior commitment.
Karl was grooming Neil to take over as CEO. He did not doubt his son's capabilities. At such a young age, he had achieved a lot. Karl was a very proud father and never disguised it. Neil was a perfectionist, although right now he was better than any of his senior executives with decades of experience or even some of the other CEOs of the other firms, he wasn't at his 100% to officially take the title.
A quarter of an hour later, Jennifer, dressed in a silver wool dress walked in. Her blond hair was arranged in an elegant chignon. Karl greeted his wife with a soft peck and Neil gave his mother a tight hug and a peck on the cheek.
