Grayson
I couldn't go back in and get my mom after I left Ellie in the kitchen. It had only been three hours and I was already throwing myself at her. But damn, she was so beautiful.
When we were kids, I had the biggest crush on her. I would follow her around and do anything she asked, ignoring my brothers and Andrew entirely. I don't think she ever noticed, but the boys did. They would make fun of me but I didn't care. I still would wait on her hand and foot.
Today, my feelings had not changed. If anything, they were stronger. She had grown up, but so had I. Her long, wavy, blonde hair looked so soft. It took a lot of will power to keep my hands away. Her legs stretched for miles. No, I'm not joking, they did. But her eyes outshined everything else.
They were a deep navy. I could only describe them as the ocean's shadow. Flecks of light blue, just like the sky on a sunny day, were scattered throughout them. They sparkeld when she was happy and visibly darkened when she was mad. They displayed her emotion even when she didn't want them to, if you were looking hard enough. Which I always was.
Snap out of it Grayson! I thought. Girls as beautiful as that always had boyfriends. Always. Of course, I had never seen a girl as pretty as Ellie before, but I could only guess. She probably had a guy back in Minnesota. A farm boy maybe. Hell, I wouldn't even know. I had barely ever been out of Coby. But what I did know was that whoever that boy was, I wanted to punch him right in the nose.
He had gotten to touch her soft blonde hair. He had gotten to hold her hand whenever he wanted to. He had gotten to comfort her when something went wrong. He had gotton to see her every single day of the week.
Well not anymore I thought bitterly I get to see her now. But what if she still wants him?
I sat up and punched my pillow out of frustation. There was nothing I could do about that. If that's how she felt, that's how she felt. And I would have to respect that. No matter how hard it would be. I flopped back down on my bed with a sigh.
I heard a knock on my door. "Come in," I answered. The door creaked opened. It was my mom.
"Hey," she said as she entered, sitting on the edge of my bed. I rolled over on my side to face her.
"Hey."
"I just wanted to talk to you about--"
"Ellie?" I asked.
"Yes," she responded. I braced myself for the worst. "Cheryl just called and said that Andrew has to leave early tomorrow to take some tests for placement and was wondering if you could pick up Ellie for school."
"I'll take her," I said quickly.
She smiled. "Great!" I think she knew how fast I would agree. She stood to leave but then seemed to remember something. She grinned even wider. "Tonight, you and Ellie looked pretty--"
"Please, I don't want to talk about it."
Her smile dimmed as she realized I wasn't going to say anything else. "Well, I just wanted to tell you that I like her better."
"Mom," I groaned as I rolled onto my stomach, shielding my face by my pillow.
I heard her chuckle softly. "Night, Gray," she said as she placed a kiss on my forehead.
"Night, Mom."
When I heard the door close I rolled back over onto my back. I stared at the fan spinning around and around. I could feel my chest rise and fall under my fingertips with each breath I took. "Me too," I whispered into the empty room,"me too." Now I would just have to break the news to Alyssa.
