-Chapter 5-
My jaw dropped. "What the hell do you mean, horribly wrong!?" I exclaimed. Darian sighed.
"Jess, you have to come now if you want to see her at all." He told me, and walked out the door. Nik and I gave each other a look, and then ran out the door, following Darian.
By the time we reached the hospital room, Randy paced outside the door.
"They're not letting us in. She started having some kind of... I don't know, seizure or something... A bad one... And then her heart.... Her heart..." He tried to finish but his eyes were welling with tears.
"Her heart stopped." He managed. His whole body shook, and I couldn't fight the tears that came to my eyes.
"They're trying to revive her." Darian whispered. I bit the inside of my lip, but it didn't help. Tears streamed my cheeks, but I tried to be strong. Darian reached out and took my hand, squeezing it gently. Darian led us all to the waiting room, and sat us down. He sat beside me, trying to hold me but I shook him off.
I didn't need his sympathy.
I just needed Alana to live.
Randy shook hysterically.. I knew what he was going through. Before I knew it, hours passed. Darian and Nikolai had gone off every once in awhile, trying to get Randy and I to eat, but I was in a blank state and Randy was worse.
Night fell. Darian had picked Randy up and carried him home. Only Nikolai and I remained, but he was only here because I wouldn't leave and he worried about me. Too much, I'd say.
Making sure that Randy and Darian had completely left the building, Nikolai pulled me to him gently and just held me.
"Jessica, it's okay. It'll be alright." He whispered in my ear. Staring blankly at the floor I shook my head.
"It's been over five hours... That could be really bad---"
"Or really good," he interrupted. His attempt at making me feel better was failing and I could tell that he knew that.
A doctor walked into the waiting room.
"I'm looking for either Jessica O'Mally, Nikolai Barron, Randy Carlson or Darian Bennett." The doctor announced and I stood.
"I'm Jessica, that's Nikolai. Why? What's wrong?" I asked, and Nikolai stood with me.
"Ms. O'Mally... Mr. Barron... Please come with me. We don't have time to get your friends." He told us and started for the room. Nikolai and I followed him.
"She's dying. She doesn't have much time but I think you should have a chance to say a few things." The Doctor, Alexander Brennan, told us. He opened to door to the room and I ran to her side. She looked weak, pale. There were tears pouring down her cheeks.
She was too young to die.
"Oh Alana..." I whispered, taking her hand. She reached up with a shaky hand to wipe away my tears.
"Don't... Don't cry... No time for tears..." She murmured, and I nodded.
"You're like a sister to me, Jess. You were always here for me and I could never thank you enough. I love you Jess..." She whispered, and I hugged her.
"I love you too, Alana." I managed... But barely.
"Does Randy know?" She asked. I shook my head.
"Darian took him home." I told her. She nodded a little.
"Tell him I love him." She requested. "And Jessica, there's a note. Inside my pillow case. It's for you." She told me. "I knew I was going to die long before this day came," she explained. I wanted to ask how but knew my time was limited.
