So there is nothing super exciting in this chapter... that's why I decided to update early and save the REALLY interesting chapter till the weekly (or sort of) update. Sooo enjoy/vote/comment/fan :)
I paced around my cell trying to figure out what I was going to do for the next couple of years. I sure wasn’t getting thirty thousand dollars anytime soon so in the meantime, I was stuck here.
I sat in front of Jackie during lunch and I told her about the court hearing. “You should not have lost it in there. That just gave them a better reason to target you.” I nodded and rolled my eyes; she was right again. Jackie was not as oblivious as you would think the first time you see her. She has street smarts, people smarts, and just common knowledge that I lack. I could respect that, but it still made me feel stupid, and that made me think of how Kolbey thought of me. I hate it, but I can’t help falling for the smart girls like Kolbey, but right now, she was at the girl’s home again where I told her she would never have to go back to as long as she was with me; or at least she should be at the girl’s home...
I had only realized that I had been staring blankly at the wall for a while when Jackie hit my hand out from under my chin. “Sorry I was just thinking about-”
“About Kolbey.” She finished what I was about to say. “How did you know I was going to say that?” She winked and said, “It’s obvious you like her, or at least have strong feelings for her. I’m not blind, Danny Rogers.” I grinned and said, “Of course you aren’t, Jackie...Jackie?”
“Cooper. I know, you don’t here a lot of Cooper’s nowadays.”
I shook my head and said, “I actually know one.”
She nodded. “I did too.”
“Wesley.” We both said and both of our eyes widened. “Wait, I’m talking about Wesley Cooper: the kid that was here with us, super shy, looked like a scared puppy, shaggy blonde hair, really blue eyes. That Wesley?”
“I-I don’t know. I had a brother named Wesley. We looked almost nothing alike except for our eyes. We were split up years ago. I went to the girls home and him to a boy’s but he-”
“Ran away.” I finished. She covered her mouth and I could see her eyes getting wet. The soft side of Jackie had shown for once.
“That’s him! My little brother is out there. I felt like that day was the last day I would never see him again, and when I heard about him running away from the boy’s home...well I called his time of death. I never thought he would have made it out there, but-well he did!” She sighed and said, “I wish I could have hugged him when I saw him, but I never knew.”
She wiped her eyes and I rubbed her shoulder. “It’s okay, Jackie. You will see him again soon. I promise.” She grinned and mouthed, “Thank you.” I nodded and couldn’t hold back a grin. Boy, would Wesley be in for a surprise...
//Then Jackie sneezed so hard that Danny's chair fell over and he died//
