Alan's POV
"Hurry up and put in the movie!" I shouted from my spot on the couch. Austin just rolled his eyes and kneeled down on the floor with his back to me, trying to decide on what to watch. I picked up one of Austin's pillows and threw it at him. He turned at the last second and deflected it with his arm, then picked it back up, returning the throw.
"Okay, okay, calm down!" Austin chuckled. I huffed and fell back against the couch. Austin was my best friend and we were having a movie night at his house since we hadn't been able to hang out in a while. There was also supposed to be a huge storm tonight and I am beyond terrified of storms, so naturally I didn't want to be alone. I wasn't sure if my friend was aware of that fact, but I'm sure he had a feeling whenever I started glancing nervously out the window every five seconds.
"If you're so impatient, why don't you come over here and help me?" he asked.
"Because I'm lazy," I replied with a whine. Although it was true, I really just wanted a good view of Austin's ass while he bent over sifting through his movies. I'd kind of had a thing for Austin for a while, but of course, I was too afraid to say anything to him. He knew that I was gay and accepted it fully, but as far as I knew, he was straight. He had never specifically told me whether he was straight or not, so I had been holding onto a glimmer of hope all this time.
Austin finally decided on a movie and put in the DVD player. He made his way back to the couch and plopped down right beside me, a little closer than two male friend might have usually sat together, but I definitely wasn't complaining. When I saw the title of the movie flash across the screen I groaned.
"Really, Austin? A horror movie?" I complained, crossing my arms. I absolutely despised horror movies, and Austin knew it. Every time I watch one, I get so freaked out that I can't go in the dark for days. Austin just rolled his eyes and patted my leg. His hand was a little too close to a certain region, but I wasn't sure if he was aware of that.
"You'll be fine, princess. This is a good one," he said. I sighed and rested my head back against the couch.
"If I have nightmares tonight, I'm blaming it on you," I grumbled. Austin chuckled.
"Trust me, you won't be having any nightmares tonight," he said.
-------
We were about thirty minutes into the movie when the thunder outside started getting bad. I was terrified to say the least, not only from the storm, but from the movie. It was a grotesque, gore-filled slasher film and I was hating every minute of it. But you know what I wasn't hating? Staring up at Austin as he kept his gaze intently focused on the movie. Watching how his eyes traveled back and forth across the screen ever-so-slightly when he was captivated by a scene, how his mouth would just barely open and close when he was kept in suspense. Yeah, this was definitely a lot better than the movie.
Suddenly, the whole room went pitch black and the horrified screams from the TV turned to utter silence. There was a loud crack of thunder outside followed by blazing light from lightning, and I knew that the storm had caused the power to go out. I gasped and my hand instinctively went out towards Austin. I was starting to grow extremely anxious. This couldn't be happening!
"Aww, shit, seriously?" Austin groaned. "Well there goes our movie. And all the lights in the house."
I looked up at him in fright, but I noticed a faint smirk playing at his lips in the moonlight.
"It's kind of scary isn't it? What if that monster in the movie were to, oh I don't know. . . " Austin looked away before quickly turning back to me and throwing up his hands and shouting, "Come alive!"
