Now I was truly on my own. I ran to the wet sidewalk and started my mini-adventure home. Before I knew it, I was quickly running. Why was I running? My instincts were telling me to, but I don't know why. I accelerated down the long road, and all of a sudden stopped and caught my breath. The bravery I displayed should have gotten me somewhere. It turns out that I barely even had gone anywhere, just a few blocks, but I was scared. I knew I was alone. I couldn't see anyone anywhere around. I heard a pop from off in the distance, I suppose that it could be a car door. Yet, I got this strange feeling that someone was watching me, following me. I was just paranoid I thought to myself, then I suddenly thought about the terrifying kidnapper Alice had told me about. This thought provoked ice to run through my veins making me shiver even in the humid air. I tried to reassure myself. I kept on thinking, "That kind of stuff only happens in movies." I kept on walking and I chose to skip through the park. I was just so scared to be alone right now. I didn't know why, but I was. I didn't see many people at the park, but I still had the feeling that someone was stealthily following me. Then perhaps out of fright, I scaled a tree. I felt like no one could possibly touch me up there. I put my foot on the crackling branch as I lifted it again to reach another. I looked down at the distance I could fall. Suddenly, I heard the sound of very loud cracking. I immediately jumped down.
That was a huge mistake. I hit the cold, cement sidewalk hard and twisted my ankle. I lay there on the ground and hoped that help would come soon. I heard the cracking noise again. So it wasn't the branch, and I had sprained my useful ankle for nothing! I was now more concerned what was making the crackling noise. Urgently, Alice's story crept back into my mind again. I then reached into my pocket to get my phone to try to call someone. It was the the only thing I could do, but it was gone. I wondered if it had fallen out of my pocket when I climbed over the tall fence. I also had just now realized that I had somehow forgotten my beautiful ocean blue backpack beside the fence. I remembered now how I had taken it off to make my climb up the fence an easier journey. How I didn't recall that I had set it down, I'm not sure I will ever know. The crackling noise rapidly increased and wouldn't stop. I was so nervous and had absolutely no clue what to do! Slowly standing up, I roughly wobbled on my leg and fell on the hard ground again. My hands were not grateful for their second impact with the ground. My ankle was aching with terrible pain, I decided to act strong and just bear it. I gritted my teeth as I stood up, barely able to handle the weight on my foot and brushing off the debris of twigs and pebbles from the palms of my hands. I quickly wobbled to catch my balance, and after struggling for a while I could stand up straight. I decided I would officially be fine, so I continued on my walk. I think I did this for at least fifteen minutes as I made my way out of the park. Then when I was least expecting it, I hit my foot on a rock, and suddenly tripped and fell. I felt a shrieking pain going quickly through my ankle and up my leg. I got back up and kept on walking. I felt miserable. I still had that feeling that someone was watching me. I saw a shadow moving around, but there was no one there somehow.
