((A/N: Sorry this took so long to update! I was working on a writing project for myself, so this took awhile to get back into writing. Thank you for 300 reads, too!))
Side note: Lots of POV switches because reasons.
Holly's POV
As she sat on the stiff chair at the hospital, Holly had her head in her hands. Her mind was swamped with things she could have done, things she shouldn't have done, and what she would have done if she'd known. If she'd known this was how things would turn out.George sat next to her, but he only stared blankly at the wall across from her. He sat there, motionless. She couldn't know exactly what he was thinking, if anything, but he had to be blaming himself. He couldn't have been heartless enough to think he had no part.
He shouldn't have been, though, because it was her fault that the Poltergeist was awoken in the first place.
She wasn't sure what to do or what to say. They were both at a loss after what had happened to Lucy.
Holly was having and internal war with herself in the wretched quiet of the hospital. Her rational thoughts were obscured by her overthinking of every word she'd spoken and everything she'd done. She was overwhelmed with guilt; for saying what she did, for initiating the chaos, for not being quicker in calling an ambulance.
They'd known that Lockwood would be fine and that he just needed a blood transfusion, but just he hadn't woken up yet. She and George were told that he would be awake within the next few hours, but Lucy was still in critical condition.
She was swarmed with grief at what she'd caused as she desperately awaited the results from the nurse.
George's POV
Even with the complete deafening silence in the corridor, George couldn't bring himself to move. He'd felt rage, he'd felt sadness, and he'd felt fear, but this was something else. As Lucy was in the emergency room in critical condition, he felt something worse than fear.It was an agonizing numbness in his mind, like nothing that happened here would matter unless Lucy was let out of here alive. He didn't feel anything near despair that neither Lucy nor Lockwood had woken up yet, but he couldn't seem to feel anger at himself or Holly.
The only thing he could identify was a gnawing guilt that ate away at him with every passing moment. He pitied Holly, who sat next to him in utter silence. She had her head in her hands, so he wasn't sure how she was feeling, but he knew she was blaming herself for what had happened.
To be fair, both of them were to blame for Lucy and Lockwood's injuries. George knew it was mostly his fault, though. He didn't research enough beforehand, so they didn't know where the Source was, and to add to it, he didn't just tell Holly what she wanted to hear without a fight.
They both perked up at the sound of the door behind them clicking open.
The nurse quietly stepped out and closed the door softly. "Mister Lockwood is still unconscious," she said gently. Holly and George both nodded, but didn't meet each other's eyes, still unsure if the other wanted to apologize.
George spoke up first. "Has Lucy's condition improved?" He asked carefully.
The nurse shook her head grimly. "The doctor is still working hard to stabilize her condition, but—" She ran a hand absently through her hair and sighed. "That's about the only news I was given."
