Chapter 1 | A False Story
"Hidden truths are unspoken lies"

I have a confession to make. After four years, I realized the truth. I can't believe it took me this long to actually admit to this.
I, Sofia Lee Maxwell, hate Hudson high school. Hell, I hate this Town.
Now, what is a confession exactly? Let me tell you, a confession is the truth. It's the truth that was forced out of you by that little nagging angel that sits on your shoulder.
It's the thing you have done in the dark, and you're the one who's being it into the light. Everyone has at least one skeleton in their closet.
Everyone has a secret.
Doesn't matter if you're the nicest person in the world.
Doesn't matter if you're the most trustworthy person alive.
We all have secrets.
Some secrets are small, and some are catastrophically huge. See, the thing about secrets is, they can start out so small, until you start pilling secrets on top of the first one.
If first started out as a small harmless lie, but then one lie turned into two, then the next lie turned to three...
You see where I'm going with this, right?
Now, you're wondering, how did I go from, "I hate Hudson Highschool" to a lesson about confessions and secrets?
Hudson high school and secrets kind of go together. Hell, this whole town is neck deep in the water of secrets. Always has been, always will be.
As soon as I stepped into the breeding ground of secret, every inch of my body told me to turn around. "Get out of there before you can't!"
Eyes from every inch of the hallway focused on me. Their loud chatter dies down, turning into whispers.
Repeating a lie they we're told.
"I can't believe she made up that fake story."
"Yeah. She's an attention seeker."
"Like anyone would believe her. She's probably the one who caused her to go missing."
The clutch I had on my bookbag's straps became tighter. The slow paste of my breath became rapid.
My mind became clouded by all the voices that filled my ears. Soon my vision was replaced with the vivid color, black.
"Is she okay? She looks like she's going to faint."
A humorous chuckle escaped my lips.
Concern?
Weren't they just calling me lair?
Wasn't I the reason she went missing in the first place?
Horrid expressions replace their concerned faces as the chuckle left my lips.
Gaining huge courage, I began to walk to my class. People from different sides of the hallway stepped out of my way, in fear.
I couldn't resist the urge to roll my eyes at their foolishness. One lie about me, and everyone is afraid to make eye contact.
My teachers fear me because of her. I once thought she was the only one I could trust in the entire world, then she stabbed in the back. Without a second thought.
I was always there for her. But her obsession was the only thing she cared about.
Everyone is quick to point the finger, but they forgot the fact that I was the only person she could trust.
Or so I thought.
I sat down in my seat, that's all the way in the back of the classroom.
The teacher's eyes widened, when she saw me. Her hands started to shake. After every second, she wiped her hands down her skirt.
I rolled my eyes. I find it foolish how people will believe everything but the truth. No matter how dimwitted it sounds, they'll still spread the story around as if Thomas Jefferson was the one who told the story.
But the truth is, she lied.
She told the story that made her seem like the victim. The story she told was to make her seem perfect because she hated the fact that she was imperfect.
The thing she didn't understand was, the things done in the dark has to come to light. You don't have to be the one who brought it to light. But soon or later, everyone will know the truth.
Because karma a bitch.
Then you'll have to ask yourself two questions...
Was it worth playing the games of lies?
Was it worth stabbing everyone, who has ever cared for you in the back?

Breathe in. Breathe out.
I tried to get my mind to focus on my legs. But the stare's were getting to me. Every inch I made closer to my locker, the more frightened facial expressions I received.
When I finally got close enough to my dark green locker, I opened it. It was the same time it was slammed close.
"Tsk tsk tsk..." The red headed she-devil blocked my locker.
The girl who stands in front of me is a monster. The worst of them all. She doesn't look evil or act it. You see her real colors when she takes the mask off.
She and I used to be closer than my ex-best friend. Y'know, the one who "I" made missing. But one this they both have in common is, they would destroy anyone who gets in their way.
No matter who it is.
Supposedly, I was an obstacle to both of their end games...
"Samantha Parker, what did I do to that made me deserve to be tortured by your presence?" I spatted out.
