Death flew to Life's wondrous palace in the middle of a crystal clear lake that's not too far from Death's own meadow. After her talk with Pitch she felt the need to visit Life, bringing flowers from her meadow, taking care not to bring daisies or poppies as she remembered that Life was allergic to them. She landed at the gate and pulled a chain, ringing at least a dozen small bells that sounded like the laughter of children, Death couldn't help but smile softly. The gates swung open and a figure dressed in white appeared with wings similar to Death's but larger and white, red strings of fate sewn into Life's sleeves and Death's eyes fell on a severed one, the one that used to connect them. Death had her end of the string wrapped around her left arm and she occasionally played with it when she was lonely and had time.
"Death, to what do I owe this visit?" Life asked.
"I simply felt the need to check to see how you were doing," she said then held out the bouquet of wild flowers, "I brought a gift."
Life took the flowers but didn't seem to care much for them, "I do hope you're not attempting to win me back."
"No, of course not, I am aware that we are not meant to be, for that is the reason our string had been severed," she replied.
"Are you not busy or did you send your reapers out?" Life asked as he stepped aside for Death to enter.
"My reapers are taking over for the moment," she answered.
Death gave a soft smile and stepped through the gates into a beautiful garden, Death recognized the flowers that she contributed and if she had a heart then it would have fluttered, the garden was silver and breathtaking.
"I see that you've been taking amazing care of your garden, your white roses are beautiful and vibrant," she commented.
"Thank you, I have other colors and hues as well," Life said then walked to a rose bush and plucked a black rose, walking back to Death and sliding the rose behind her ear, "Black was never my color but it suits you perfectly."
Death gained a light dusting of pink on her pale cheeks, "Thank you, though I believe we can both agree that red is a classic color."
"Indeed it is," Life smiled then caressed her cheek.
The two spirits had tea together and caught up, a lot had happened in the centuries that they had spent apart, Life recently brought the most adorable silver fox into the world and Death, though it was sad, helped the kindest girl pass on.
"Melanie, right? She visited me before moving on," Life said.

Death smiled sadly, "She was so gentle, I wanted to return the butterfly but she was in such pain that it wouldn't have been fair," she said, "She stayed for quite a while, quite the curious soul."
Life reached over and wiped away a tear that Death hadn't known she cried, "It's alright, my dear, there was nothing you could've done," he told her.
"Thank you, though I believe I've overstayed my welcome, I must return to my responsibilities," she stood and smiled, "I'll visit again soon, though do be careful next time you go out. Farewell."
Death took her leave and got back to work, soon retrieving her reapers and causing a swarm of butterflies to fly into the clouds.
