They're all too tired to notice.
Graygrowl quietly padded out of the warrior's den. Her heart nearly jumped out of her chest when Sharpsnarl lifted his head up and looked around sleepily. To her relief, he yawned and fell back down into his nest to sleep, clearly unaware of his denmate's escape.
She sniffed the air for a tang of Clan scent mixture, but there was no sign of Lemonheart. She spotted a cat moving out of the medicine den, and she noticed that it was Rockheart and Clear-heart. Rockheart hadn't been in the warriors' den when they've returned from the Gathering. He states that he wanted to speak with Graygrowl's sister, Clearheart. The medicine cat now turned her head toward the direction of Graygrowl, who had pelted into the empty nursery.
She waited for a while, then poked her head out to look. The moon shone on the camp, wind weaved through the trees. She wondered whether she should just go straight out of the camp entrance. Though that would cause a even more catastrophe than having Sharpsnarl catching her sneaking out of camp to meet a traitor. Because the warrior on guard is Yellowspot, who is basically another Sharpsnarl for Graygrowl to deal with. The yellow tom pins for her as much as the smoky gray tom does. Although Yellowspot isn't as overprotective as Sharpsnarl, he blasts cheesy jokes all the time, to Graygrowl's annoyance.
Just when Graygrowl was going to turn for the secret exit behind the nursery that she was in, she heard a familiar hiss.
"Come on, mouse-brain!" a pair of glowing bloodshot green eyes opened. Lemonheart was in the camp! Graygrowl slowly padded out of the nursery to the secret exit and met the cream rouge.
Lemonheart was scowling. "Slowpoke," she growled.
Graygrowl rolled her eyes and began following Lemonheart out of the camp. "Where are we going?" she asked the cream she-cat.
"Outside, of course." the replied came as an annoyed growl.
Well, to do what? She thought but was aware that Lemonheart might pounce on her if she'd asked her one more question.
After walking for a while, where they were near PrimClan territory, Lemonheart halted. "We're here. Leafstrike, you can come out now." the rouge called out.
Leafstrike? Graygrowl thought.
A gray she-cat with pale tabby stripes slid out of the ferns. One of her leg was limp, her ears were shredded and she has one eye.
Leafstrike, Graygrowl realized, isn't she the one who haunts our nursery tales, the story of the former GrayClan deputy who had nearly killed her own mate, leader, medicine cat and some certain warriors just because her dead evil sister told her to?
Lemonheart's meow jerked Graygrowl back to the present. "Ah, a GrayClan warrior."
Graygrowl saw a familiar reddish tabby pelt emerging from the ferns. Shattershade! The GrayClan warrior was only a kit when Leafstrike tried to murder everyone, so she briefly escaped the scary nursery tales, but that made her utterly clueless about the dangers of the cat that had tried to kill her Clanmates.
"Why are we here?" Shattershade asked the two dangerous she-cats, tilting her head to one side.
Leafstrike grinned, "We're here to practice," she explained, padding over next to Lemonheart. Then she crouched down, ready to leap at Shattershade.
Graygrowl's heart dropped down to her stomach. They were here to practice fighting with rogues.
And not just any rogues, it's these rogues.
"Watch out!" Graygrowl hissed, leaping over to cut between Shattershade and Leafstrike. Lemonheart purred with amusement as if seeing a cat hurt is amusing.
