Guilt

Cry laughs, going on about some of the times he's played games with Minx and a few others. Everyone laughs, reminiscing about how things were before. For a moment, they can all forget about the people they'll probably never see again, and how the world has fallen. For a moment, they can all pretend to be normal again. They can just hang out with friends and forget their worries. For a moment. That moment is instantly shattered when Signe asks Minx where Krism is. All the laughter instantly stops and everyone looks everywhere but at Minx. Minx looks at Signe for a moment before looking away, "She's.. Dead."

Signe's eyes widen, "I-I'm sorry.."

Minx stands, turning away from the group, "I'll.. Clear the infected off the yard."

Cry stands, "Minx--"

"Alone." Minx snarls, walking out the front door.

Cry sighs and sits back down. Entoan frowns and Signe looks guilty. She sighs and covers her face, "I shouldn't have asked.."

"No," Dan frowns, "You shouldn't have. The fact that Krism isn't here should have been enough context to why."

"Dan.." Phil sighs.

"What?" Dan glares lightly.

"It was a mistake, Minx will forgive you," Dave says, "Just give her some time. She's still hurting.."

"She is, and he's right," Ohm adds, "Minx is trying her best to deal with Krism's death, but it hurts her bad, Cry and I have seen it since the day it happened. Minx.. She'll go into this all business mode, and as long as you don't bring Krism up, she'll be fine.. Or at least she'll seem like it. Krism died near the end of the first week of the outbreak."

Signe nods lightly, "Right.. I won't bring it up again.."

"That'd be smart," Dan rolls his eyes.

"Dan," Phil frowns, "You're not helping."

Dan rolls his eyes again but says nothing else. Entoan sighs and stands just as Cry does. Entoan chuckles, "Are you going to go check on her, too?"

Cry grins and they both head out the front door. They look around, the pitch black of night makes it hard to see, the dark clouds cover the sky, giving no light. Entoan pulls out a flashlight and turns it on. They look around again, not really wanting to call out for their friend in case there's infected around that could hear.

"Which way do you think we should go?" Entoan asks.

"She said she was only going to clear the yard, so we shouldn't have to go too far." Cry frowns, "Let's just go around the house this way."

Entoan nods and starts walking. They walk in silence, listening for any indication that anyone is around them. All they hear is their own breathing and the wind blowing through the trees. The flashlight makes it a little easier to see where they're going, but doesn't give enough light to let them see too far ahead of themselves. They walk around for awhile before they see the body of an infected lying before them. They exchange a look and then Cry calls out for Minx. The next moment, she runs up to them from within the darkness, "What? I told you I wanted to be alone."

"It's a little dangerous for that, don't you think?" Cry asks.

"Especially at night," Entoan says, "You should come back inside with us now."

Minx sighs, crossing her arms, "I guess you're right.."

"Come on," Cry gives her an encouraging smile. Minx gives him a light smile back and then the three friends head back into the house. When they get inside, they're greeted by worried looks from their friends. They all sit back down together and Signe turns to Minx, "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked."

Minx shakes her head, not looking her in the eye, "Don't worry about it."

Awkward silence fills the room and then everyone decides to retire for the night. Minx, Cry, and Entoan stay in the living room so the others can share the rooms and Cry stretches out on the couch, "If I wake up to a gun in my face, someone's getting punched. Just saying."

Entoan chuckles, rolling his eyes, "Give me a break, I didn't know who you were. There was a lot of you and just me and Signe. I was trying to be cautious."

"Well, we're all on the same team now, and I'm never letting you putting a gun to my head go." Cry grins.

Entoan laughs softly, leaning back in his recliner, "Right, right. Gotta tell you, though, it was super hard not to laugh when you called me rude for pointing a gun at you."

Minx lays on the other couch, staring at the ceiling, listening to her friends bicker playfully. After awhile they fall silent, she assumes they're finally going to sleep. She sighs softly and hugs herself as she closes her eyes, hoping to get some sleep as well.

...

Minx stands in her bedroom, staring at her wife's body. Ohm stands close by, but he's not looking at her, he's not saying anything. The knife in his hand glistens with fresh blood. Minx kneels by Krism's body and as she moves to turn the body over, Krism spurts to life and tackles Minx, knocking her to the floor. Minx gasps, eyes widening as Krism holds her down, growling at her. The blood from Krism's stabbed eye drips down on Minx's face. The dead woman snarls, "Why did you let this happen? I thought you loved me!"

"I do love you!" Minx gasps, tears falling down her face.

"Liar!" Krism roars, "If you loved me you would have saved me! But you left me to die!"

"No!" Minx sobs, shaking her head, "I wanted to save you! I never would have left you behind!"

"But you did," Krism growls lowly, leaning down close to Minx, "You left me all alone and let him kill me. You should have been there for me, Michelle. You should have stayed with me."

Krism pulls a knife and she sneers, raising the blade high over her head Minx gasps and tries to push her away but she can't move. Krism stabs the knife into Minx's chest, leaning down again and whispering in her ear, "You should have died with me!"

Minx screams and when she opens her eyes, Cry is standing over her, looking worried. She's breathing heavily and trembling. He pushes some hair off her face, "Are you okay?"

Minx shakes her head and starts crying. Cry pulls her up and wraps his arms around her, letting her cry. Entoan looks at them with a worried expression. Cry meets his gaze and shakes his head. It had only been an hour or so since the three had fallen asleep, and waking to one of your friends screaming in their sleep is never a good sign. Entoan leans back, just watching them until Minx finally cries herself back to sleep. Cry lies her back down then goes back to the couch he was sleeping on. Entoan sighs softly, "She have nightmares often?"

"Only when she thinks about Krism," Cry replies softly, "Only when someone reminds her about Krism."

Entoan frowns, but no more is said about the matter. After awhile, Cry and Entoan go back to sleep.
