Another part about senior year that makes life easier, is at Goodie High some seniors only need two core classes to graduate. For Jason Grace, that means the only classes he is required to take is calculus, and English. The rest of his schedule is filled up with elective courses such as Latin, Weights Training, history of Ancient Civilization, and marching Band.
Jason viewed his band almost as a Praetor viewed his Legion. From his position as a drum major, he was seen as a leader, and mistakes seemed to be Jason not doing his job by his band and his other drum major, Annabeth Chase. However, two people can't keep 200 high school students in line. That's where Jason's centurions came in, the section leaders. Woodwind lieutenant, his beautiful girlfriend Piper McLean, who used her soothing tone to keep people calm when things get frustrating. High Brass Lieutenant, none other than Percy Jackson, who would be able to play any part from his section on his trumpet. He was one of the best teachers in the band, and helped Jason greatly. For the Low Brass Lieutenant, Frank Zhang, who was the silent backbone of the band. With his outstanding leadership through service, he kept everyone sharp and on their toes. And Finally, for the drum line Jason was once the lieutenant of, Nico Di Angelo took his place. For being a kid that seems to hate everything, he is the best snare drummer available and frankly nobody wants to cross him.
All of these people help keep the pieces together. The drum line as the Front line in the legion, using the cadences as their Shields to keep the rest of the band on tempo and keeping them secure. The Low Brass adds strength to the band, as the legionaries who could use numbers to overwhelm the enemy. High Brass, who brings the melodic lines and are perceived in higher regards by most people are similar to the Calvary, where they rush into the kits of battle making a beautiful mess of the enemy. Last but not least the wood winds, who you may not hear, but add the details in the sound to pull everything together, like Archers in the legion picking off the enemy whenever they could. And at the head of it all was the two praetors, the two drum majors who used their own actions as an example, to conduct the band in the direction they needed to go.
It was beautiful, complexing thing to Jason. And he took pride in the ability of his legion.
"Alright everyone, Gather around" Jason says with a powerful tone of voice "I know we have already been working for a Month and a half already, and we almost have the entire halftime show down. Just remember we have a week left till the first home game, and we march the whole show then. So when we go out on the practice field in a few minutes, I need 200 guys and girls to come out and give all they have like the last month and a half. See you in five minutes outside."
Annabeth pipes in, "ya know Jason, Giving them a motivational speech to soften them up followed by a short amount of time to get outside is as genius as it is mean"
"So higher expectations is mean? I thought you were supposed to be the bad cop Annabeth" Jason laughs
"You're absolutely right, a blonde girl like me can obviously play bad cop better than a guy who is basically a blonde super man."
"How about we just go out before we're late to the time I set?"
"Ugh sometimes you're more difficult than Percy"
"True. Let's go"
