"... So, you two already know each-other?" Chiron asks quizzically, breaking the awkward tension.

"Yeah, we grew up together in San Francisco and we ended up being drum majors together." Jason responded.

"Oh, so this other drum major that you led such a successful band with. You two must be pretty close to each other" Chiron says, not quite seeing both of their expressions darken.

"Well, sir, it's been a while..." Reyna adds.

"Well, because you two have a such successful history together, Monday Reyna will audition for the directors to fill as a second drum major. Then Tuesday she will conduct with you on the field, Jason, and the band will also vote on whether she is fit for the position."

"A new drum major? She will only have the weekend to prepare for auditions, and only a few hours to meet the band and get to know them! Chiron, she needs more ti..." Jason is cut off by Chiron

"Jason, I trust your intuition, but this is not your call. If Reyna would like to audition she will do so at the time stated. Its too much work to put her in the show now since we would have to move the entire band around, and the limited time will make me see if you two really are well suited to lead together. So, miss Arellano, would you like to audition?"

Without hesitation, Reyna says "yes sir, if you will allow me I'd like to leave now and start preparing."

"You two are dismissed. Jason, make copies of the original score and your personal ones for Reyna so she can see the notes you've taken. Also plan to work on the full show at least once before Tuesday" Chiron finishes.

The two make their way down the hall into the music library so Jason can retrieve the original copies of the scores to copy. The room was about the size of a normal classroom, with sliding cabinets filling one wall filled with miscellaneous sheet music that had been amassed over the years. As he searches for the box Jason's mind starts to go crazy. What are the chances that Jason might get to lead a band with Reyna ever again? As much as he was terrified as he was about their history, he was also thrilled that he would get his partner in crime back. They might be able to get an amazing amount of work done together, they might not mesh and ruin everything, or she might not even be on the podium with him. As he pulls the scores from the box and runs copies Reyna decides to speak up

"Jason, if we work together again it is strictly professional. We are not friends, and I don't care to spend time with you if it is not related to this band. Understood?"

"That seems kind of harsh. I can't even introduce you to some people you might be able to be friends with?" Jason says with a small laugh, trying to lighten the mood.

"I guess that would be fine" Reyna says a little irritated

"Oh, I have the perfect person for you to meet and I think he's here right now, I'll go get him" and Jason walks out of one of the sets of doors. A few seconds later he walks back in through the opposite doors grinning and says

"Hi, my name is Jason Grace, I think that we would be really good friends"

Secretly, Reyna was amused. Outwardly, she held her the phalanx on her emotions and made no reaction.

"We will meet tomorrow at 10:00 am for you to go over the scores with me. As soon as I get the feel for it I'm leaving." She snaps at him, taking the scores from the tray and begins to walk out.

"Where are we meeting then?" Jason asks, with a hint of cheekiness in his voice.

"I don't care, you decide." She says and walks out, shutting the door behind her.

"Wait, how am I supposed to tell her where to meet if I can't contact her?"
