Zack was singing his vocal cords out in the shower doing a fist pump with a soap every time he sang the ‘hey’ part. He danced and sang under the shower, his body fully wet and covered in lather.
“I’m on top of the world!” he sang loud with a light jump but he loses balance in his landing and he slips. His butt bounces off the wet surface of the shower floor and his back hit the wall. At first he remained still due to shock, then he began laughing, knowing he didn’t actually hurt himself.
He heard knocking on the bathroom room in between his laugher. “Zack are you OK? I heard a loud thumb” says Mrs. Haynes
“I’m fine mom, just slipped, didn’t hurt anything”
“alright then” she gave out a sigh “Now stop wasting water, you’ve been there for almost 20 minutes”
“OK!” he shouts back.
It took him another two minutes to actually clean himself properly and start drying himself with the towel. He got out of the bathroom still humming the song. He turned on the radio first before putting any clothes on.
Putting on his underwear was easy, but choosing what to wear is where he’s stuck. He sat on his bed with only his boxer briefs staring straight at his open closet. His clothes were hanged and folded neatly, so there is no need to rummage through it.
At the mean time, Travis was planning his alibi. He’s been convincing Jason to cover for him.
“Oh come on Jay, please” Travis begs
“Fine” He heard Jason sigh through the phone
“Thanks jay, I owe you a big one”
“Wait! What am I suppose to say again?” Jason asked just before Travis was about to end the call.
“Tell them I’m with you guys, playing video games at Harold’s. They won’t bother asking other questions after that.”
“OK. Where are you going anyway?”
“just doing some important errands. I’ll call you when I’m coming back home. Thanks man”
“no problem, just don’t forget to call so I’ll know”
“I will” Travis ended the call and puts his phone in his pocket. It’s 4:30 and the concert starts at 6 pm, he puts on his shoes and checks himself one more time at the mirror before going out of his room.
His father is at the living area watching Sunday night sports program. His mother is still at work and will be home by five. He grabs his keys and was about to open the front door when his father spoke without looking at him. “Where are you going this late in the afternoon?”
“I’m hanging out with the guys, Jason have this new video game and were gonna try it out.” Travis isn’t that good at lying specially when you’re looking straight at him, his eyes twitch and he keeps licking his lower lips. Good thing his father wasn’t staring at him.
“what time you coming back?”
“not sure, probably around 10 or so”
Mr. Deeley was quiet for a moment, “Ok then.” He finally spoke dismissing their conversation. Travis got out of the house and into his car, putting the key to start the car.
Zack was ready to go. He grabbed his wallet and phone from the table and put it on each side of his pocket. He turned off the radio before heading down stairs. He met his mother at the kitchen stirring a cup of coffee.
“Want something to drink?” she asks
Zack waves his hand “Nah, Travis might be here any time soon”.
She grabs the cookie jar from the counter top, “Is Mr. Deeley ok with you hanging out with Travis again?”she said before sitting back down on her chair.
“Not really” Mrs. Haynes raises her eyebrow.
“better be careful then, who knows what he will do when he figures out.”
“Anyway, I’ll go wait outside” He leans in and gives her a soft kiss on the cheek. “see yah”
“drive safe and have fun”
“we will” Zack shouted back before closing the door. He brings out his phone and rings Travis. It took a while before Travis answers the phone.
“Hello?”
“Hi there stud muffin. Are you excited?”
“LOL stop calling me that ! Where you at anyway?”
“I’m at the intersection on Lionel and Parker street. Don’t worry I’ll be there in less than a minute. ”
“Ok, I’ll be waiting” Zack’s smile grows wider
“kk, see you there” Travis puts down his phone and shifts to drive. He was halfway the intersection when a bright blinding light appeared on his right. He turns his head to look but then he felt an incredible amount of force all over his body, particularly his head. In less than a second, everything around him went black.
