Jason informed Zack to meet up at the kid’s park. It’s almost eight in the morning and both Jason and Travis are nowhere in sight so Zack decided to have a go at the swing while waiting.
He left his bike leaning against the pole, as he approaches the swing. He tested for durability before increasing the speed. He used both his legs to kick forward and his weight to swing back. With every swing, he went higher and higher. From an angle of forty five to ninety and now almost a hundred and eighty, he continues to put force on each swing. The structure of the swing begins to wobble. As soon as he realizes, he lost momentum and fell hard face down on the sand.
He grunts and moans in pain, but still manage to find the humour through it and begins to giggle.
“What the hell? Are you OK?” Jason sudden appears in Zack’s view gasping for breath.
He continues to snicker while Jason helps him up. “Would you stop laughing, look at your face” He brushes the dirt off Zack’s face and wipes the blood dripping from his lips.
Zack noticed that Travis was watching them, and he suddenly stopped laughing and stepped away from Jason. “I’m fine thanks”
“What were you doing anyway? Are you trying to make full circle?”
Zack smiles again “maybe”
“Idiot” Jason responded but smiled too.
“Can we go for a ride now?” interrupts Travis
“oh yeah, sure sure” Jason went and picked up his bike while Zack dusts himself off. “Ready?”
“Yup” Zack responds
Travis just nods. Jason starts pedalling, leading the way.
They pedalled their way out of the park into a trail leading to the lake. The bike trail was rough and full of bumps going up and down small hills. After five minutes of riding, Zack can already feel his calf and thighs burning. There is a steep uphill climb ahead and he feels he’s too tired to go on. Halfway through and he was gasping for breath. The other two was almost at the top of the hill.
Travis saw that Zack was struggling and signalled Jason to stop. “Come on Zack! You can do it...just a few more” Jason shouts trying to encourage him.
Seeing Zack in pain gives Travis the urge to go and help pull Zack up the hill but before he can act on it, Jason already went ahead and rode downhill towards Zack. He quickly opens his pack and brought out a bottled water.
“here have a sip” he said handling Zack the bottle. He took it and had a mouthful before giving it back.
“Thanks”
“now do deep breaths and lets go up together”
“ok”
At the moment, Travis felt angry somehow and he doesn’t know why. His grip on the handles tightens and he began pedalling up the hill “Hurry up!” he shouted as he speeds up. Zack noticed the tone in Travis voice but said nothing.
Upon reaching the top, they saw Travis sitting near the edge of the cliff having a drink of his water bottle. Jason nudges Zack on the shoulder, signalling him to go talk to Travis. He took a deep breath before walking towards Travis, sitting beside him.
Travis shifted to relax his legs and offered water to Zack without a word. He just hands him his water bottle and Zack didn’t hesitate to drink a couple of gulps.
“Nice view huh?” Zack began
“yeah”
“you can see the whole lake” he paused and search the whole area and saw a familiar wooden dock. “Have you been here before?”
