Chapter 1

          Jade was just another normal 18 year old girl. Or at least she tried to think she was. She was actually the adoptive child of Jess and Gabriel Conte. She considered them her true parents though, considering her dark past...

          "Jade! Time to get up!" her mom said from downstairs in the kitchen. Jade groaned and dove deeper into her sheets. "Five more minutes!" she yelled back. After about a minute, she heard loud footsteps coming upstairs. She quickly covered herself with her blankets. Her bedroom door opened and she expected to hear her mom's gentle, soft voice try to wake her up again but instead, she felt a heavy weight jump onto her bed. "Get. UP!" her dad said as he jumped up and down on her bed, trying to annoy her. Jade laughed and gave in. She uncovered herself and sat up in her bed. Her dad smiled in victory. "Now get ready, we're leaving in an hour," he said to her as he walked back out of her room. Jade sighed. She finally got out of bed and went over to her closet to choose an outfit to wear. She put on her blue Take Chances hoodie, black skinny jeans and her vans shoes. She then brushed her hair quickly and did her usual makeup before joining her parents downstairs for breakfast.

         "Hey, sorry I woke up a bit late" She said. "Wow! Nice of you to join us, Jade!" her dad said dramatically as he pointed his vlog camera to Jade. She rolled her eyes at him and her mom laughed while she served them both a plate of pancakes. "Wanna tell the Conteam what we're doing today?" her dad said to Jade as she got herself a cup of coffee. "Not really" she told him jokingly. He made a goofy disappointed face that made Jade laugh. "Fine. Today we're going out to buy costumes for a Halloween party we got invited to go to tomorrow," Jade said to the camera as she sat down next to her father. "Yep, there's gonna be a lot of cool people there! The Merrell twins are hosting it" her dad further explained. "Babe, you should eat, you can talk more after" Jade's mom told her dad. He did as she said and turned off his camera. Jade was already halfway done eating her food. Milo, their family dog, suddenly started begging her for food. "Awww! You want some food?" Jade asked him. He wagged his tail enthusiastically. She excused herself and went to feed Milo. "Jade, do you know what costume you wanna get?" her mom asked her as she filled Milo's water and food bowl. "I think I wanna get a gryffindor outfit" Jade told her. "Cool! Your dad and I can dress up in our own Hogwarts house uniforms too!" her mother said. Jade smiled and nodded. While her parents had finished eating, she went back to her room to get her wallet and her phone. "Cmon Jade, we're leaving!" her dad said from downstairs. "I'm coming!" she said before putting her wallet and phone into her hoodie pocket and then closing her bedroom door before going back downstairs. She followed her parents out of their house and walked over to her dad's car. He mostly drove them around since her mom didn't know how to drive very well. Jade had just gotten her license recently but she still didn't have her own car and her dad refused to let her drive his car.

       "Are we ready to go?" he asked Jade and her mom as they buckled themselves in. "I think so" Jade said. "Yeah I think we have everything, let's go" her mom said. And with that, they headed over to the nearest Halloween costume store.
