Chapter 4

       Jade got back home on time. Her parents were watching a show on Netflix in the living room. "You couldn't have waited until 9 at least?" Jade said as soon as she walked into the living room. "I was just checking on you" her dad said. Jade sighed and just went up to her room.

      The next day, Jade was able to wake up late since she and her parents had nothing to do today until later for the Merrell twins' Halloween party. Jade didn't wake up until about 12pm. She would've woken up a lot later if she hadn't had homework to do. Her parents had told her she'd only be able to go to the party if she finished all her school work. Jade quickly got to work. She played some music on her phone while she did her assignments that way she wouldn't get bored.

     About an hour later, Jade had finally finished doing all her school work and decided she should go downstairs and get something to eat. She should've been more careful before going to do so though.... As soon as she walked into the kitchen, her dad came out of nowhere and scared her from behind the counter. Her mom was filming from in the living room. Jade glared at her dad and he laughed at her reaction. "Sorry, it was just too hard not to scare you," he said. Jade rolled her eyes and ignored him as she searched for something to eat. "Did you finish your homework?" her mom asked from in the living room. "Yeah. I'm starving now" Jade said as she took out ingredients to make a grilled cheese sandwich.

     After she ate breakfast, it was starting to get pretty late. "We should start getting ready" Jade's mom suggested. Jade agreed and went back up to her room to get changed into her costume. She did her makeup first and then put on her gryffindor uniform. Once she was in full costume, she admired herself in her full body mirror. She grabbed her phone and took a mirror selfie to send to Mia. As she texted Mia, Colby suddenly texted Jade.

colby: heyyy if you need a ride to the party, I've got you :)

jade: hey! I'm actually going with my parents but I'll see you at the party :)

colby: cool, see you there then! ;)

     Jade smiled to herself. "Hey Jade! Can you come over here?" she suddenly heard her dad say. Jade put her phone into her pocket and went to see what her dad needed. "What do you.... need..." Jade said but couldn't quite finish asking as she saw the costume her father had put on. He had ended up getting the minions costume...

     "Dad!" Jade whined. "Isn't it great!" her father said in great fascination. She sighed and went to look for her mother. "Mom! Did you see what dad....?" Jade stopped mid sentence as she approached her mother's room and saw she had dressed in a similar costume as well. Her mom looked over at her and gave her a sympathetic look. Jade felt betrayed... "What do you think??" her mom asked as her dad came and joined them while posing with her. Jade tried not to laugh... "You guys look... great" she said, giving them a genuine smile. Her dad felt great joy from her response. "Great! Why don't you join us?" he asked her as he brought another minion outfit out for Jade. "Uhhhh I think I'll pass... we should get going though, the party's starting soon," she told her parents. "Agreed, let's get going" her father said as he went to grab his car keys. Jade went to get her purse and then followed her parents out to her dad's car. Mia texted on the way to the party.

mia: I love your costume!! Colby's gonna like seeing you in it too ;)

jade: whatever XD are you at the party already?

mia: Yep. And so is your boy toy ;)

jade: STOP lol. what costume did he choose??

mia: The grim reaper, I'm sure your dad will love that

jade: colby is a great guy, he just needs to get to know him

mia: Mhhmmm

jade: whateverrrrr see you in a bit :p

     Jade's parents talked to her about her senior year of high school as they drove to the party. "Do you know which colleges you're wanting to apply to?" her mother asked. "Sort of. I really want to study art" she told her parents. They both smiled at each other, approving of her decision. They finally made it to the location of the party. Her dad parked in the nearest empty parking spot and then they got out and walked into the building where the party was being held at. There were already large amounts of people there, some of which Jade knew from her parents' job. "I'm gonna go find Mia" Jade said and walked away before her father could stop her. She pushed through the crowd and tried to look for anyone dressed in a corpse bride costume. You'd think blue hair would be easy to spot out...

Jade ended up unexpectedly running into Saffron.

    "Hey! You got here right on time! I want you to meet my friends" she said as she took Jade's hand and dragged her to a different location in the building. She took her to where the snack bar was at. There were 4 very tall handsome guys standing by. Jade could barely make out their faces in the darkness of the room. One of them stood out to her though. He was wearing a hufflepuff costume...

    "These are my friends! Tristan, Bradley, Connor and James, this is Jade" Saffron said, introducing them to each other. Jade shook all of their hands. She seemed to catch the hufflepuff's eye as much as he had caught her eye... "Nice to meet you guys. I heard you guys were in a band. What kind of music do you guys play?" Jade asked. "Pop rock mostly. You wanna hear us play??" Connor asked. "Sure" Jade said. Bradley smiled at her response. They walked away to go set up the stage. While they did so, Jade excused herself from Saffron and continued searching for Mia. She eventually came across Colby. "Heyyy! I was wondering when you'd get here, Mia is talking with Jake at our table, I'll take you to her" he said as he offered to link arms with Jade. Jade laughed at the gesture. She linked arms with him and let him lead the way. Sure enough, Mia was sat at a table with Sam, his girlfriend and Jake. "Hey! I didn't know when you'd get here, were you looking for me?" Mia asked as she got up to greet Jade. They hugged and Jade reassured her that she was fine. "I kind of struggled until I found Colby" Jade explained. "Of course, always your knight in shining armor" Sam teased. Colby glared at him. Jade blushed. "Come have a seat with us," Jake said. Jade and Colby joined them and sat down next to each other at the table. The band that Jade had met a few minutes earlier had finished setting up and Saffron was announcing their set. "Hey guys! I hope you're all having a great time tonight! I would like to present to you all, my lovely friends, The Vamps!" she announced. Everyone cheered and applauded for them. Jade and her friends paid close attention to them. Jade fell in love with Bradley's singing voice. He was very talented. His whole band was.

      "Wanna dance?" Colby suddenly asked Jade. It caught her by surprise at first but as she looked over at him to respond, she found herself quickly accepting his offer. He smiled as he took her hand and led her to the dance floor. Colby was a terrible dancer. Jade burst out into a fit of giggles whenever she watched him. They jumped around together to the rhythm of the music playing while they laughed and smiled at each other. After about 3 songs, The Vamps let the DJs take over again. They got off stage and blended into the crowd of people on the dance floor. Jade had gotten tired and decided to return to her friends to sit back down. "I'll get us some drinks" Colby told her. She nodded in approval before he left. "So you and Colby???" Jake asked, wiggling his eyebrows at Jade while Mia laughed from next to him. Jade's cheeks heated up. "You told him????" Jade asked Mia. "Nah, he guessed it. He knows things" Mia said. "What things?" Jade asked. "Liiiiike the fact that Colby likes you as much as you like him," Jake said. Jade was shocked by his words. Colby returned with drinks. Mia and Jake smirked to the side and watched Jade with Colby as Colby sat back down next to her and handed her a red solo cup. "Oh, I don't drink" Jade said to him. Colby laughed. "I know. It's water. I didn't want the others teasing you so I put it in a red cup" he whispered into her ear. She smiled and thanked him before taking a sip. When she looked back at the crowd of people still dancing, she saw her dad at the center dancing with her mom. She nearly choked on her water when she noticed how he was dancing. He was being so embarrassing....

      "Is that your dad??" Mia asked. Jade sighed and nodded. "He's got some sick moves" Colby said from next to her. She laughed and shook her head. The rest of the night seemed like a blur after that.
