Chapter 3

     "Uggghhhh" Jade groaned in annoyance. "I know, I know I just didn't want to go alone" Mia said as she drove. "If I had known that when you said 'hang out' you meant going to help Veronica and Vanessa decorate for the party, I would have much rather spent the rest of the day with my parents" Jade said. Mia laughed. "Sorry, I just didn't want to be there alone with other youtubers that I don't know very well, they know you more," she said. Jade sighed. Mia wasn't wrong... "You're right... I guess it won't be too bad. Do you know which other youtubers will be there to help?" Jade asked. "I know Sam and Colby will be there for sure" Mia said teasingly. Jade rolled her eyes but smiled a bit. Jade has had a crush on Colby since the first time they met a few years ago. They were pretty close but she was too scared to confess her feelings to him....

     They finally arrived at the building where the Merrell twins would be holding their Halloween party. Jade noticed Colby's car in the parking lot. She and Mia got of Mia's car and walked into the building. Sure enough, both Sam and Colby were already there, helping blow up balloons. Colby saw Jade and waved to her. Jade smiled and waved back. One of the Merrell twins walked over to Mia and Jade to give them their task. "Oh great! You're here! We need help putting up the banner" Veronica said as she gave them a ladder and a huge banner. She then ran off to finish what she was doing. "Let's get to work then" Jade said. Mia nodded and followed her as she walked to the front of the room and planned out in her head how the banner should be hanged. "Set the ladder here" Jade told Mia. Mia did as she said and set up the ladder close the wall. Jade climbed up. Mia held on to the sides so that the ladder wouldn't move out of place. Jade nailed the first side of the banner in one corner first and then on the other. Once they had finished putting up the banner, they stood back to admire it. "Looks pretty good!" Mia said. Jade nodded in agreement. They went to find Veronica to return the ladder. As they both were about to make their way over, Colby called for Jade. Jade glanced over at him and then looked back at Mia. "Go to him, I'll give this back" Mia said, urging Jade to go talk to her crush. Jade waited for her to walk away before walking over to Colby to talk to him. He and Sam had finished blowing up balloons. "Heyyyyy it's Jade!" Sam said gleefully. Jade laughed at his greeting. "Heyyy do you guys need help?" she asked. "Nah, I think we've got this, Colby just wanted to talk to you," Sam said as he pointed over to Colby. He was tying up the last balloon. Jade walked over to him and stood in front of him. "Hey, what's up?" Jade said to him. He lit up as soon as he saw her. "Hold up, let me give Sam this last balloon so he can go set them up where they need to be," he said. Jade nodded and waited to the side patiently. Colby returned soon after and attacked her with a huge bear hug. Jade laughed and hugged him back. "I haven't seen you since we went to Disney last weekend, how have you been?" he asked as he pulled away from her. "I've been ok, just really tired and stressed with school," she said. "You're almost done though, just a few months to go" he encouraged her. She smiled and nodded in agreement. "Do you wanna hang out again sometime? Sam and I are going out to film this scary video this weekend, it'd be fun if you joined us" Colby said. Jade thought about it. Her dad would never allow it ...unless... "Can Mia come along?" Jade asked. "Of course! I think Jake has a crush on her, he's coming with us as well, he'd love to see her" Colby said making Jade laugh. "Yeah ok, I'll get back to you then. I gotta ask my parents first" she told him. "Of course! I don't want to get on your dad's bad side" Colby said. "Yeah...So how much more do we need to get done here?" Jade said, changing the subject. "I think we just need to help set the tables and then we're done" Colby said. "Oh, okay" she said, not knowing what else to talk about. They stood there awkwardly for a few minutes until Mia walked back to Jade. "Hey, Vanessa said she wanted help baking desserts" she told Jade. "Great... I'll text you later" Jade told Colby. He gave her a small smile and nodded in approval before she walked away with Mia to help Vanessa in the kitchen.

       A few other youtubers arrived a few minutes after Mia and Jade had come to help. Jade recognized most of them because of her parents' jobs. Saffron, a beauty guru, walked up to Vanessa to ask her a question as Mia and Jade were helping make Halloween cookies. "Hey! So I was wondering, would it be ok if I invited a few uninvited friends? They're a band so they can play a couple of songs to entertain the crowd" Saffron told Vanessa. "Ooohhh! That's a great idea! Go ahead and invite them but tell them they need to come in costume" Vanessa told her. Saffron thanked her and then noticed Jade. "Jade! How are you??" she said as she quickly went around the counter to hug Jade. Jade laughed as she hugged her. "Hey! I'm ok, I haven't seen you in a while, how have you been?" Jade asked her as she cleaned herself up. "I've been good! Sorry I haven't been able to see you in a while, I've been super busy" she told Jade. "It's ok, we should go shopping soon sometime" she told her. Saffron nodded in agreement. She hugged Jade one last time before running off to continue her own tasks. "How are you friends with her?" Mia said making Jade laugh. "She's really nice and she's a huge fan of my parents' work. She was one of my first youtuber friends" Jade explained as she put cookies into the oven. "That's really chill" Mia said as she cleaned herself up. "Yeah. I wonder what band she's talking about" Jade said. Vanessa seemed to overhear her. "I think it's probably some of her british friends" she told Jade and Mia. "Ooohhhh! I love a british accent" Mia said making Jade and Vanessa laugh. Jade suddenly got a text. Her dad was wondering when she'd get back home. It was only 8:30.... Jade sighed and showed Mia the text. "Vanessa, I think we're gonna need to go before Jade's dad starts freaking out for no reason" Mia told Vanessa. "That's ok, thanks for coming! You guys helped a lot! I'll see you guys tomorrow" Vanessa said. Jade and Mia nodded said goodbye before leaving.
