Jade told her mom that she was inviting Colby over because they both had a project they needed to work on together. She knew her dad wouldn't be too happy if he found out she was inviting a boy over... He came as soon as he could. Jade waited for him in the living room. She went to open the front door as soon as he rang the doorbell. "Hey! My mom's making dinner right now, she said you're free to join us" Jade told him as she let him in. "That's cool" he said, smiling warmly at her. She smiled back and led him to her room. She quickly closed her door once they were in her room. "You better start explaining before I go kill Jake myself" Jade said. Colby was surprised by her sudden change of mood. They sat down on her bed and Colby kept looking down, feeling embarrassed. "Ok, ok... He told me what had happened.... He had meant to spike the drinks for Mia and him but... they ended up with us instead... we ended up getting really knocked up and then one thing led to another..." Colby said sort of timidly as his cheeks heated up. "Did we... kiss?" Jade asked. He looked at her and nodded. Jade blushed and looked away from him. "I'm sorry if you hadn't wanted it to be that way... I'll tell your parents it was my fault if they find out" Colby said. Jade reached out and took his hand into hers. He looked back over at her. "No, it's ok... I just thought... maybe you had spiked the drink at first and I was kind of upset about it because I thought you had lied to me about giving me water to drink" Jade explained. "I would never lie to you," Colby said honestly. Jade smiled at him and he smiled back. Their smiles faded as their eyes met and Jade could suddenly remember their little scene from last night... She quickly stood up and sat at her desk instead. "You ok?" Colby asked her. She nodded. "I'm just... I don't know how to put it" she said shyly. Colby tried not to laugh. "Is it about the kiss?" he asked. She blushed and he took that as confirmation to his question. "Well... I know this is weird and I don't know how you feel but... I was the one who initiated the kiss, that I remember. I did it because... I like you" he confessed. Jade stared at him for a moment, unsure of what to do. "If you don't feel the same way, it's ok, I totally get it... I just thought you should know" Colby said as he was about to get up to leave. Jade surprised herself when she got up as well and stopped him. He looked back at her in confusion. She reached out and took his face into her hand. "Colby... I was scared to talk about the kiss because I thought I had initiated the kiss... because I like you too" she confessed to him. Colby stared at her this time. They started leaning into each other... "Jade! Your dad's home!" Jade's mother said from downstairs. Colby and Jade quickly pulled apart. "Umm... we should go" Jade said. Colby nodded in agreement and followed her as she led the way back downstairs. Her dad was helping her mom set up the table. "Need any help Mrs. Conte?" Colby offered. "Ooohhh could you help me take the cups?" Jade's mom told him. He nodded and went to her aid. Jade smiled as she watched him. Her dad noticed. "So why is Colby here?" he asked her as they sat down together. "We had an assignment we had to do together" Jade told him. He seemed to buy it. "I haven't seen him in a while, did he get a tattoo??" her dad asked her as he watched Colby from where he was in the kitchen. Jade rolled her eyes and tried not to laugh at him. "Colby is a good guy, it's what's on the inside that counts" Jade told her dad. He sighed and gave in. Her mom and Colby returned with the drinks and finished setting up the table. Jade sat next to her mom while Colby sat across from her, next to her dad. They prayed first and then began eating. "So, have you joined any sports at school or are you into other stuff?" Jade's dad asked Colby. "Yeah, I still make youtube videos with my best friend Sam. We were actually wondering if Jade could join us this weekend. Her friend Mia is going as well" Colby said. "What are you guys filming?" her dad asked. She looked over at Colby, unsure of what he'd say. "Just an adventure video. It's completely safe. I'll make sure Jade gets back home on time" Colby reassured her parents. Jade's mom grinned as she watched Jade's dad. He was being very picky. "You drive? Permit or driver's license?" he asked. "I passed my driving test a few weeks ago" Colby told him. Jade smiled at him. He was always really good at dealing with her dad. "Ok, ok. I don't see anything wrong with her going but you better protect her. She can be a bit clumsy" her dad said. Jade scoffed as Colby agreed with him. They both laughed at her and started getting into another conversation.
After dinner, Jade and Colby watched the dishes while her parents cleaned up the dining room. "Your folks are still really nice. Your dad is a bit-" Jade cut him off. "Protective? Strict? Judgemental?" she said, making Colby laugh as he put away the last dish he had dried. Jade dried her hands and faced him. "Nah, I think he just cares about you a lot. It's nice to have that. Not everyone has that" Colby told her. She smiled and nodded, understanding what he meant. "I should get going now. Sam is probably wondering where I am" Colby said. "Yeah, sorry I kept you so long" Jade said. "Nah, it's ok. I like coming here. You should invite me over more" he teased her. She laughed. Colby went to say goodbye to her parents first before finally walking to the front door with Jade. Her parents were nowhere in sight so he took the opportunity and caught Jade off guard and kissed her. She froze and he laughed at her reaction. "I'll see you at school," he said before walking out. Jade couldn't even respond. She just stood there for a moment and then finally closed the door. What had just happened?????
