The bell rings and I zone out as Ms. Lucas starts talking about a project, a group project. Insert groan here. Why are group projects a thing, one person ends up doing the whole thing...usually me. Staring at my desktop as I hear the squeal of chairs moving as my classmates find their partner for this project I don't notice someone coming up to my desk until their shadow is over me.

I glance up. Micah Wade one of the new kids that moved here last month is standing there staring at me, like he is waiting for something. Whatever I do not feel up to this, my side throbbing in pain and I go back to laying my head on my desk and close my eyes. Micah clears his throat. I ignore him. He does it again; I sigh and open one eye. I stare at him waiting for him to talk. Time passes and he doesn't so I close my eyes again. Maybe I can get a nap in before the bell rings. I hear Micah huff above me and I have to work not to smile.

"We're partners" I hear. "mKay" I mumble not even bothering to open my eyes. "It means we need to work together," he continues. "Sure," is my response. I know how this works he will pretend during class, then when it comes time to do the project I am left holding the bag, er project. I hear what sounds like a growl that causes me to open my eyes. I raise my eyebrow silently asking 'what?'

"I can take the introduction and part of the conclusion if you want to..."he begins. I roll my eyes and interrupt him, "Why bother you are just going to leave me to do the whole thing, its fine I will make sure to put your name on it so just don't bother pretending it's fine." "Wha.." he responds sounding confused. "I promise you will get a good grade so don't worry just leave me alone, it will get done, okay," I say just as the bell rings. I grab my stuff and walk out toward my next class.

He follows me still trying to talk to me. "Look Aryn I'm not sure..." he trails off as Brian Frisco, Roses boyfriend, body slams me into the lockers where I promptly slide to the ground in pain. I am sitting there, on the floor of the hallway, trying to breathe through the pain when Micah reaches out his hand out to help me up and I automatically flinch back. He stops short, looking angry, which causes me to shrink further into the lockers; it's never good when people are angry, it generally ends with me in pain. Micah is standing next to me in the hallway, fists clenched as students' stream around him. Eventually, he storms off and I manage to get myself upright and walking to my next class.

For most of the day I wonder what was going on with Micah, he didn't react like everyone else does which confuses me. I shake my head trying to get it out of my mind. He is just new and hasn't assimilated to the culture here, which is basically people do whatever they want to me for whatever reason. .

Just because he didn't act like the other now doesn't mean he won't later so there is no point in dwelling on it. It doesn't mean anything. I sigh from my internal monologue wishing it wasn't true but knowing it was.

I eat my meager, small lunch quickly and head to the library like always, only this time I am stopped by Madylin Ross. She is a part of the Micah's group, they all moved here the same time and generally tends to socialize only with each other. When she comes up next to me suddenly, I flinch a little bit causing her eyes to widen a bit. "Hi, err sorry to startle you," Madylin starts "I just wanted to make sure you were okay after the whole Brian thing?" I stare at her confused but I nod my head slowly. When she doesn't move to say anything else I go into the library sit down at a table and start my homework.

I am engrossed doing my work, so I am startled when she sits down next to me and jump slightly when she plunks her stuff down. It is silent again as I work, Madylin taps on her cell phone. I keep looking up from time to time to glance at her, confused as to why she is here. Soon it is close to when the bell is going to ring, I begin to pack my things up and start to leave to go to my locker before the next class when she finally speaks, "you don't talk much do you?" I pause what my packing, looking over to her as I shrug, then continue packing up and walk off.

Why talk when nobody is going to listen.
