Rose and her Barbie posse were waiting for me after second period as I stepped out into the hallway. "Well lookie here if it isn't the geeky freak, or is it the freaky geek." Rose cackled with her posse joining in. I put my head down trying to walk past them. I'm stopped by a hand on my shoulder. I turn my head to look at it, then I look at the person who the hand belongs to, it's Rose.
Of course it is.
I pick up the hand pull it off my shoulder and then drop it once it is far enough away from me. I glare at the group and again try to walk past. "I am talking to you freak." Rose pressed in my personal space, causing me to talk a step back. I raise my eyebrows at her. "Answer me!" Rose spat at me. I just shook my head as I walked away, not bothering to answer. Why when it was just going to get her to antagonize me more. Finally I was able to get pass the gaggle of bitches only to be shoved in to the lockers. My back exploded in pain. Rose and her army of skanks strutted pass me snickering as they went.
I waited eyes trained on the ground for the new wave of pain to pass, concentrating on simply breathing in and out. By the time I got the pain back under control third period had already begun. I didn't even bother looking up as I hurried toward my third period (Science). Soon after I started moving my arm was grabbed. I looked up to see Liam, Madylin's very attentive boyfriend (read very overprotective) looking at me with...was that concern? I stared at him then back to his hand, on my arm, he got the hint and let go of my arm.
He still hadn't said anything and I was already late so, I started walking again and he stepped in front of me as if to stop me. Again I stare at him. He gave a little chuckle and said "Mady said you didn't say much, I just wanted to make sure you were okay after that little display." I stared at him...again, but this time from shock. He, wanted to check up on me? That was sweet, I guess. Nobody really cared about my well being for years. Not quite sure why he did. I shrugged, then slightly winced, hoping he didn't catch it I walked forward again and this time he didn't stop me.
By the time I got to my third period the class was about halfway over and Mr. Lombardi was not happy with me or my excuse that I wasn't feeling good and was in the bathroom. But he only gave me a stern look and let me go to my seat without further incident. Whew. I thought for sure I was going to get a detention and that would have gotten me in more trouble at home, which I do not need.
At all.
Clearly.
My next two periods past normally, or as normal as high school can be and I decided to skip the cafeteria today and just go straight to the library to try and type up the report for English. I'm almost done when a shadow covers me causing me to look up. Who do I see but Micah Wade standing over me.
I stare at him, waiting for him to say something; he doesn't so I go back to typing. He clears his throat. Feeling a sense of déjà vu I stop typing and glance at him before continuing on. A hand reaches around me and turns off the computer monitor. Angry now I scoot back in my chair and glare at the offending person. "What are you doing?" he ask. Me? How about you? What do you want from me? I think. Still glaring at him I throw my hands up in a 'what' motion as I move my chair back to the computer. I go to power on the monitor again when Micah's hand grabs mine to stop me. I quickly pull my hand back to me, flinching slightly from the contact.
"Why aren't you in the cafeteria eating lunch?" Micah pressed. "Wasn''t hungry," was my reply. "You still should eat," he continued. I shrugged, "Forgot my money anyway." What the hell does he want? Who the hell does he think he is? Why the heck does he care whether I eat or not? Annoyed now I go back to the keyboard and just hit 'ctrl' and 'p' then enter to print the paper. It is basically done I had just wanted to edit it but I guess that isn't going to happen now is it.
I pack up my bag and go over to the printers paying the fee for the pages I printed; stapling them together I turn back toward the irritating person. He is still standing there anger plain on his face, which pisses me off more. What does he have to be angry about if anyone has the right to be angry it's me and I'm not, not really. I shove the pages into his chest and walk out of the library deciding to go sit in my sixth period class until the bell rings.
Walking home from school I fell drained like I have no energy left. My back is killing me, I have a headache building in my forehead and I really hope my father isn't home so I can take a nap before making dinner. I truge up my front walkway, open up my front door and walk in. I make it to the kitchen, so far so good. Up the stairs, still good. Room, I let out a deep breath as I shut the door behind me. I drag my feet over to my bed where I flop down onto it. I flinch once I land but at this point I don't care. Remembering to set an alarm so I can make dinner I fall blissfully into sleep.
Beep.
I turn off my alarm, rubbing sleep out of my eyes I look around. I am pretty much in the same position I fell into prior to my nap, the sun is setting making my room darker. I get up slowly my back stiff from laying still for too long. I shuffle to the bathroom to grab a couple of Advil and head downstairs. I end up having enough time to make baked chicken with mashed potatoes and peas. Debating whether to make myself something to eat, deciding that I have had enough beatings this week to risk another one, I retreat to my room, not before putting everything in the warmer.
I was just finishing my homework when I heard father get home. Hearing the t.v. click on, I relaxed a bit. Taking care to not make any noise I quickly completed my work as I waited to see what was going to happen. Hours later the t.v. turned off and I could hear him as he walked through the house and up the stairs. I froze, as he stopped outside of my room. My heart rate picked up, beating fast in my chest I thought it would come free. He soon carried on to his room I still didn't move until long after his door shut.
