You yawn, stretching your arms out above your head before rolling over onto your back. For some reason, you feel cold, but the blankets are still wrapped snuggly around your upper body. Rubbing the sleep out of your eyes and slowly sitting up, you blink and take in your surroundings. It's not your room. It's not Rika's room. It's Seven's. His unused bedroom, that you had fallen asleep in last night, warm in his arms. Yes... That's why you felt so cold this morning. Though, you doubt he stayed very long last night, at least he kept his promise of staying until you were asleep...
Though, it makes you wonder where he did sleep then. The couch? Or did he even sleep at all...? The last few chats you'd had with him mostly revealed how little he slept and how hard he worked. You can remember, because that's why he argued he could survive off of potato chips and soda. Not that you didn't try to as well, but at least you had real meals for dinners, so you worried over the mysterious man.
That's it! As you stand from the bed, a small smile pulls at your lips. He had loved your cooking the other night. Maybe you can pay him back his hospitality by making dinner for him. Or even lunch. Surely that would be good. But first, to see what he had, and if he was awake.
You debate changing out of the shirt you had slept in... But it was warm and comfy, and smelled a little like him, so you thought you'd change later. Maybe after a shower. Besides... It's not like it was revealing. Quite the opposite actually, and you were never all that worried about things like that anyway.
"Luciel?" you call, beginning to open the bedroom door. At first, your voice his hesitant, but the more you wander, the louder the clicking and clacking of keys becomes, and you know now that he must be awake. "Hey Luciel...?"
You see the hunched over form only illuminated by 5 large computer screens, all covered in walls of text from varying sources. You try and read some of them, but all you can gather is one screen has some mindless background noise, one screen is a set of instructions from an email, and another two just scrolling numbers that go by too fast for you to comprehend. It was a little overwhelming, and considering how dark the room was in comparison to the screens, you find yourself searching for a switch and surprising the focused body by turning on the lights.
He yelps briefly, headphones falling down around his neck as he jumps up from his chair and turns to face you. "Mari? What the- Jesus, you scared the crap out of me!" he finds himself chuckling slightly. "Warn me next time, will ya? Those lights are blinding."
"I️ was trying to," you reply with a tiny frown. "I️ guess you were too focused to notice that I️ called your name. How long have you been up, anyway?"
He blinks, sitting back down and looking at his phone before turning the chair to face you. "Couple of hours now... I️ didn't wake you when I️ left, did I️?"
You quickly shake your head. "Oh, no. No, I️ slept through the entire night. Did you though...?"
"Believe it or not, I️ actually did! Got a full night's rest. Missed a whole night's worth of work though," he sighs slightly.
You approach his desk, looking over the screens with curiosity. "Is this your work? I️ doubt it's that bad that you missed one night. You always talk about how much you work..."
Luciel nods, almost looking proud. "I️ told you, Mari. I'm a hacker! And hackers never sleep. Because when everyone else is asleep is the best time to get work done. Not that anyone would notice my hacking anyway," he chuckles.
"Where's that?" you interrupt, pointing at one screen you hadn't seen behind his head. It looks like a map, with a large blue circle over a small border, but you don't see any names. Just a few rectangles you assume represent buildings.
"Oh, that? Well... I'm hoping the source of our stalker problem. Your stalker problem... I️ can't get an exact location, but all that info I️ pulled from your phone earlier has so far led me to this general area just outside of town," he explains, suddenly sounding serious. You rarely hear him serious....
"Wait, you mean even with your own work, you're still trying to help find my stalker?" you ask hesitantly.
He blinks, looking up at you. "But of course! Why wouldn't I️?" he replies just as cheerfully as usual. "It doesn't take any extra time. And if anything, is more important than work. Because the RFA is my family. And since you're part of the RFA, that makes you family too, and anyone who wants to interfere with my family comes before my job."
You feel your heart give a tiny flutter in your chest at his words. Family? Why did that make you hesitate, but happy at the same time... "Well, how noble of you," you finally comment. Luciel beams, before he notices the thought-filled look in your eye.
"What's up Mari?" he asks quietly.
"Well," you hum. "You mentioned family, and it got me wondering... You never really talk about yours. Jumin mentions his dad all the time, and Yoosung his mom... Hell, even V's been going on about Rika as much as Yoosung! But you... You don't even mention if you had anyone before RFA. And I️ know it's not really my place, but I️ was just curious. Everyone had someone once... And if it sucked, then you don't have to tell me. Because you said it yourself: RFA is your family now. But even then you don't seem to act quite the same as most people do with their family. Not quite... And I️ can tell because you talk to me differently than you talk to everyone else."
"Mari, I️-..." Luciel sighs. "You're right. I️ had a childhood I'd rather forget, and family that I️ can't acknowledge. My job stops that. Because I️ can't be associated with anyone or they could be used as leverage. It's the one downside to my job. Not that I️ really care. I️ have friends, and it's the RFA: people nobody would even be aware exists if they're not in the right group circle. And then I'm here to stop anything from happening. The most secure family in the world..."
You look down at him, biting your lip as you regret your words. You kneel down before him, gently taking a hold of his hands and letting out a sigh of your own. "I'm sorry, Luciel. That you have to think that way... And for bringing it up. But I️ get it. My childhood was horrible too, so I️ appreciate you even telling me." You gently run your thumb in circles over his, looking down at his hands. They're surprisingly soft, and very warm against your skin. "Hell, you saw me last night... I️ know better than anyone what your life is like: With limited friends, a past you want to forget but can't... Fear... But, I️ am sorry again that you had to take me in last night. That you had to come find me. I️ appreciate it though... If you hadn't, who knows how long I️ would have stayed out there..."
His hands gently tighten in your grip, and it makes you look up to meet his gaze in slight surprise. "It's okay, Mari. You were out of ideas. And I'm glad I️ could find you. We were all worried, you know... Even Jaehee called me before work this morning to see if you were alright."
"She did...?" you echo.
He nods, offering a small, reassuring smile. "She did," he states. "I️ told her you were fine, but she might want to hear herself soon. How about we grab some lunch and then go pick up your phone? I️ might be able to edit your functions enough to limit how much that guy can get through to you," he offers with a wider smile.
After a momentary pause, you nod. Maybe it would be a bad idea. As much as you hated giving that stalker the ability to contact you, there were other people who were trying to reach out. So together, you and Luciel quickly get ready and begin the journey back to Rika's apartment.
